The giant panda's features

Apperances
The giant panda's coat is thick and woolly, which makes it look like a teddy bear. Its face is relatively flat, like ours. Its head and body are mainly white, but it has black ears, nose, shoulders and legs. Its eyes are small with black patches around them. This makes them look large and innocent.

The panda's paws
The giant panda has a 6th finger, which is actually part of the wrist bone sticking out, looking like a swollen pad in the wrist. It is used as a thumb together with its forefingers to hold and grip even small bamboo shoots with precision. The giant panda's paws are broad with long retractable claws and furry undersides which help it grip when climbing.

Size
The size of a grown panda is 1.5 metres standing. Females are a little smaller. Comparing it with other bears, it is quite small; a grizzly bears is 2.1m and a polar bear 3.4m. So it is not really such a giant, as the name implies. It is only called giant to separate it from the red panda.

The giant panda can weigh up to 120 kg in the wild, females weigh a little less. The Giant panda has the largest teeth of the carnivores, and it lives to be 20-30 years old.
