You know, long before the launch of BRBTV in 1998, its founder was a journalist. In fact, BRB has been an editor and writer for three different daily newspapers, including one of the biggies in Detroit, as well as a freelance blatherer for many other newspapers across the country. So, she likes the news. In that spirit, we launch in the year 2000 a new feature for "Dynasty High" -- the News page. Based on the questions we've gotten from our kind readers, you would like to hear some "Dynasty" news. Keep checkin' back; we'll keep updating it ...

Beacham's former co-star sheds light on actress

Ted Raimi, who starred with Stephanie Beacham (our own Sable Colby) on TV's "SeaQuest DSV," had kind words for the actress at his appearance today in Columbus, Ohio. "She's a terrific actress," Raimi said, adding that he enjoyed working with her. One thing he does recall about Beacham in her post-"Colbys" and "Dynasty" role on "SeaQuest DSV" is her fascination with "miniature houses and miniature furniture," he said. "She would always be like, 'Owweh, look at this chair!'" he imitated in an English accent. Raimi, a veteran of the TV show "Xena: Warrior Princess" and brother to Hollywood producer Sam Raimi (and a Detroit native -- rockin'!), was speaking at the Mid-Ohio-Con event.

*** SPECIAL BRBTV WARNING on buying 'Dynasty' videos

If you've been a frequenter of the Dynasty High guestbook, then you know the background of this. Please read the guestbook for more information, but the essence is this: Some degenerate soul out there has been scamming "Dynasty" fans out of their hard-earned cash by posing as a seller of the episodes on video. This person works over the Internet and evidently never mails you the videotapes he promises. Please, please, please be careful out there. This person is rumored to be based in Poland and allegedly asks the buyer to wire the money through Western Union.

If you are in doubt as to the authenticity of a seller of "Dynasty" videos over the Internet, please don't go through with the purchase. BRBTV expects to be announcing two "verified" sellers soon, on this very page. That means we will give you the names of sellers who have completed sales of "Dynasty" videos in honesty. So stay tuned.

Attention 'Dynasty' fans who've purchased videotapes -- we need you!!!!

The demand for "Dynasty" episodes on video has not abated in the few years that we've been at this whole website thing. We notice, from time to time, that fans sign our guestbook stating that they have "Dynasty" episodes on video for sale.

We'll ask you a favor, to serve other fans out there: If you have emailed BRBTV about where to find the "Dynasty" videos, AND have successfully purchased them from anywhere, up and including someone who signed our guestbook, please email us and let us know. The seller you purchased from will then become a "verified" supplier for other fans out there who are looking for a safe transaction and are wary of possible scams (see our guestbook entries for more on that!). We will run an item on this News page, spreading the word that this seller is legitimate. It's kinda like the eBay feedback system!

We ask that the buyer be a person who has emailed us in the past (we archive everything, so we can verify that) so that it makes it easier to identify a legitimate buyer, too. After all, email addresses are pretty easy to come by, aren't they?

So please tell us about your legitimate transactions, and watch this page!

Book finds the humor in 'Dynasty'

Author Joel C. Starkey has emailed us with a press release on his new book, which features a humorous take on "Dynasty" and other favorite TV shows. We're happy to pass it on:

To Whom It May Concern:

I just LOVE your website and thought I would share some news with you concerning "Dynasty." I have a new humor/parody book out on all e-tailer websites (barnesandnoble.com, borders.com, amazon.com, fatbrain.com, booksamillion.com, etc.) right now, as well as in most of their bookstores. It is called "T.V.'s Other Guide: The Lost Final Seasons To America's Favorite Retro Shows" by yours truly, Joel C. Starkey. The ISBN number is 1-88393898-8. The books offers a "lost" final seasons to eight classic television series, including "Dynasty." Also featured are: "The Brady Bunch," "The Partridge Family," "Eight Is Enough," "Happy Days," "Gilligan's Island," "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?" and "Charlie's Angels." A synopsis is given for 22 episodes of each show's final "lost" season. Also featured is a section of character interviews, where they are interviewed as if they were real people. Alexis Carrington Colby Dexter Rowan is interviewed from "Dynasty," and I think all "Dynasty" fans will love this one! Finally, there is a horoscope section where you can see which character's zodiac sign you share and what you should watch out for.

If you love classic television shows, especially "Dynasty", and you have an open-minded sense of humor, you will truly get some great belly laughs from my book! I'm glad I could let you know about it, and I hope you will enjoy it and let others fans of your website know about it. Thanks again!

Charlton goes ape

Charlton Heston, so well-known for his starring role in the 1968 version of "Planet of the Apes," as well as for his role as Jason Colby on "The Colbys," crossed over to the other side. In the 2001 version of "Planet of the Apes," released on Friday, Heston plays an ape, instead of a human, in an amusing, ironic tribute to the original flick. Frankly, we loved it, right down to a classic line he repeats in the new film, which we won't spoil here.

In related news, Mark Wahlburg, for his star turn in the new "Apes" flick as well as for the spiritual views he espoused in a recent interview, moves up on the BRBTV Meow List. Wahlburg, previously rated at two Meows!, moves up to the three-Meow! echelon, shared with greats such as Ricardo Montalban and JFK Jr. BRBTV is pleased to announce this trial-period status for Wahlburg, pending further information, of course. 'Dynasty' goods go up on eBay

Thanks to Thomas Kaiser, who gave us a heads-up through email on his auctions posted on eBay. Here's what he had to write:

Hi! Since you're a "Dynasty" fan I wanted you to know that I've put out some of my '80s collection of "Dynasty" articles and clippings on eBay. In the weeks to come there will be more good stuff.

To find it easy, when you get into eBay (the largest auction service on the Internet), search for: dynasty listing - in the title only. Then all my items pop up! I've numbered my listings from #1-20. Next time I put stuff out I'll do the same - from #21 and up, and so forth... Good luck bidding.

Most articles and clippings are from Norwegian and Danish magazines. There are also some German stuff and a little from english mags. This time there are more stuff on the series, pics from the episodes, Emma Samms AUTOGRAPHED poster, William Beckley AUTOGRAPH, original Norwegian glossy video covers, posters, articles and pin-ups.

Most auctions start at $9.90. This is kind of low - because these articles and clippings are very rare - even in Norway. I'm sure the things you'll miss here now, you'll probably never find again...

Take care. Hope you'll find some of interest. Thomas.

The pictures of L.B. and Krystina all grown up are worth the download time alone. Bring your imagination along for this ride, and enjoy.

Nolan Miller dresses Joan again

Nolan Miller, the designer who did the "Dynasty" duds -- and made a name for himself quite handily on them -- is designing for his lovely leading lady, Joan Collins, once again. "These Old Broads," which airs Monday (see item below) features the mastery of Miller.

"She has no figure flaws," Miller says on today's "Entertainment Tonight, "so it's very easy to work for her."

The emphasis is on animal prints for Collins' role in the TV movie. "She wears a lot of things with short skirts -- very tight," Collins says of her character.

Collins is cute as always, certainly (chalk it up to the salads and nightly martinis!), and she talks about this most recent role, which has some great co-stars: "I've known Shirley (MacLaine) since she was almost my sister-in-law, since Warren (Beatty), her brother, and I were engaged. Debbie (Reynolds) is great fun and a tremendous clown. Of all of us, by far, Elizabeth (Taylor) is the, you know, icon of icons, the movie star. She is the last remaining movie star."

Joan, you're everywhere!

Meow! Major powerchickfest coming your way on ABC! The network airs "These Old Broads" on Monday, February 12, starring the lovely Joan Collins, who just loves to capitalize this News page! Joan plays Addie Holden, an actress has-been (so NOT!), along with Debbie Reynolds and Shirley MacLaine. Ironically, the lady that Collins has often been compared to, Elizabeth Taylor, plays their agent. In the story, these old actress "broads" get reunited for the screen years after their heydays. Nestor Carbonell, the tasty photog of TV's "Suddenly Susan," plays a television exec in the two-hour, made-for-TV movie. Catch it at 8 p.m. Eastern time. Carrie Fisher, daughter of Debbie Reynolds, continues to eclipse her "Star Wars" fame with writing jobs like this script. We're there!

And representing the '80s, it's .... Joan!

Catch the January 2001 issue of Good Housekeeping -- you'll find a feature on updating looks of the decades. For the '60s, the featured look is Cher. For the '70s, it's Farrah (we really admire Farrah). For the '80s, it's our very own Joan Collins. The magazine talks to the stylist who assembled Joan's "Dynasty" 'do, who gives you tips on adapting that look for the new millennium.

In the 'We Don't Judge 'Em, We Just Throw 'Em Out There' Category ...

Hmmm ... We get lots of interesting email here at BRBTV, and we love every goll-darned bit of it. In the interest of passing along all things of interest ... We just can't resist pointing your clicker in this direction, in response to an email we received from the Rev. Boyle Timbers: The "Dynasty" Bible Study.

Holy cow! It's Billy Dee again!!!

The debonair Billy Dee Williams (Brady Lloyd to us) makes the news once again. He sure is a busy guy these days. Now he's in a new movie: "The Visit," from Urbanworld, rated R. The film also stars Hill Harper, Rae Dawn Chong, Talia Shire, Obba Babatunde and Marla Gibbs. It's directed by Jordan Walker-Pearlman. Essentially, it's an adaptation of Kosmond Russell's book about a dying prisoner visited one last time by his family. (BRB notes that when she spoke with Billy Dee Williams on the phone a year or so ago for a newspaper story, he referenced this movie; the storyline involves AIDS, and it sounds like a real tear-jerker.)

Bid on a jacket from the "Dynasty" crew

We here at BRBTV can admire the spirit of capitalism, so when we got this email, we just had to pass it along. Selling on eBay right now is a jacket given to the crew of our favorite show. The size is extra-large on this Adidas jacket, and the starting bid is $100. Check it out here. (Thanks, Karen, and if anyone else out there wants to spotlight Internet auctions of "Dynasty" goods, just drop us a line!)

Thanksgiving words from Billy Dee

Happy Thanksgiving from BRBTV! And now that we have the joyful message out of the way, let's hear some somber words from the man who played Brady Lloyd, Billy Dee Williams: "I don't really celebrate Thanksgiving," Williams says in Entertainment Weekly magazine. "I find it very difficult to celebrate something that disrupted an entire civilization."
