The Plane

"So, when are you coming home?" Scully asked
into the phone.
"I'm gonna try to leave tonight," Mulder's voice
responded.
Scully mumbled her approval.
"I miss you," she then said.
"I miss you, too."
"When you get home, I have a surprise for
you."
"Ooh, a surprise. What is it?"
"Now, if I told you it wouldn't be a surprise,
now would it?"
She heard him laugh," Well, okay, I'll take your
word for it. I gotta go or I'm gonna miss my
flight."
"OK. I love you."
"I love you, too," and he hung up.
The next morning
12:45 P.M.
Skinner sat in his office, reading through
another case file, when someone knocked on his
door.
"Come in," he barked.
The door opened and Kim, his secretary, walked
in.
"Sir, I've just received word that Agent Mulder's
plane crashed last night. So far, there's been no
survivors."
Skinner looked up, "You sure?"
Kim nodded, "Sir, do you want me to imform Agent
Scully?"
"No, I'll do it," Skinner said as he got his jacket
and left for Quantico.
X-File Office
Skinner hesistated before knocking on the door
of Mulder and Scully's office. He knew of their
relationship, their true relationship, and
wondered how he was going to tell Agent Scully
that her husband was now dead because of a
damn plane crash.
"It's open," he heard Scully say.
Slowly, he opened the door and stepped inside.
"Sir, you didn't have to come all the way down
here; I would have been more than happy to go
up there," she said when she looked up from the
case file.
Skinner sighed. How do you tell your agent that
her husband was dead? he thought. He might have
had to tell people that their loved ones were
killed but he's never had to be the barer of the
bad news when it came to one of his agents.
Judging from his body language, Scully knew that
Skinner did not have good news, "Sir, what is it?
Have Mulder and I been seperated?"
"No, it's not that," Skinner said, looking down at
the ground.
"Then what is it?"
Skinner sighed again and tried to break the news
to her, "The plane that Mulder was on never made
it to Dulles International."
"What do you mean?"
"They found it this morning, on the side of a
mountain."
"No."
"There were no survivors."
"This can't be happening," Scully said, as tears rolled
down her cheeks, "He can't die."
Skinner walked over to Mulder's desk where she was
sitting and placed his hand on her shoulder, the only
way he knew how to comfort her. She turned toward
him and collapsed on him crying out of control now.
"He can't die. I had a surprise for him. He can't die,"
she cried over and over.
Scully and Mulder's apartment
10:13 P.M.
He entered the apartment quietly, for fear of waking
her up.
He was headed for the bedroom when he saw her on
her couch, sleeping.
He knelt down to her, and brushed some hair out of
her eyes. He noticed tear tracks on her cheeks.
She held in her hands a picture of her and Mulder.
Her mother had taken one day when they went over.
He was about to leave when he saw her slowly open
her eyes.
"M-Mulder?" she asked.
He knelt down to her again. "Scully."
"Oh, my God," Scully said as she jumped up and
hugged him tightly.
"Shh. It's okay."
"I thought you were dead. He told me you died on
that plane," Scully cried into his shoulder.
"Dana, I missed that plane. And I couldn't call to
tell you."
She said nothing, just cried, thanking whatever
God out there that saved her Mulder.
He looked down at her, "So, what's my surprise?"
She laughed quietly and said, "Congratulations,
you're going to be a daddy."
A huge grin slowly appeared on his face.
