EARTH SCIENCE REFERENCE TABLES

Regents Earth Science is like every course that students take in high school, there is some information that the students simply have to memorize. In Earth Science however, a major emphasis is placed on the student's ability to process information and not on how much they can memorize. To facilitate this the State of New York has developed a sixteen-page document called the Earth Science Reference Tables, ESRT for short. This document contains information, in chart and graph form, that connect to nearly all of the topics we will cover this year. For example this year the students will have to use formulas. Page 16 of the ESRT has a list of all of the equations students will have to use this year. Once again the emphasis is not on whether they can memorize the formulas, but if they can select the appropriate formula and use it correctly. A large percentage of my test, and the Regents Exam, questions are based on information contained in the ESRT.

Students have requested that a copy of the ESRT be added to my web site. This required more computer skills than I have. Fortunately Mr. Kaukeinen accepted the challenge. After spending countless hours he found a web site that contained the ESRT. Mr. R. Schneller, an Earth science teacher at the Onteora Junior-Senior High School in Boiceville, NY has done a great job placing the various components of the ESRT on the Internet.

Below is a link to his site. I have also built in links on the objective pages that will take students to the appropriate chart in the ESRT for that particular objective.
