In "Des Fleurs Sur la Neige" Céline plays Elisa Trudel. It's the true story of a girl who has been abused by her mother, father, stepfather and husband. But brave Elisa decides to take control of her life and because she has faith, she is able to turn her life around.
The series start out in the courtroom, where Elisa's case is being heard. Her alcoholic mother and her father have abused her emotionally, verbally, and physically. Her stepfather has tried repeatedly to rape her and has really tormented her.
She is ordered into a foster home and her child-care worker, her only friend, prepares her to leave her abusive family. She just spends a few months with her new family, who are very religious people. The teenage son and Elisa are smitten for each other, and when they develop feelings for each other, the father finds out and punishes them both. Elisa, heart-broken, is asked to leave their home.
She is then put into another foster home. Her new foster-family has a daughter Elisa's age and an older son. Elisa doesn't feel at home because the daughter is jealous of her and the attention her mother gives Elisa. She spends about two years in this home, but then her stepfather tracks her down and tries to rape her again.
After this horrible experience, the court decides that she is old enough to live on her own now and she leaves the family that she has grown attached to.
Elisa's child-care worker helps her find her own apartment. She then falls for her next door neighbour. He is kind to her, flirts with her, doesn't push her like the people from her past. She falls in love with him before they even have their first date. But then, when Elisa comes home from her waitressing job, she finds her love interest with another woman.
Elisa keeps it to herself, trying hard to ignore it. They resume dating and soon Elisa moves into his apartment. They get married and soon Elisa finds out she is pregnant.
Around this time her new husband becomes violent with her too. He smacks her around and screams at her and she endures it, again.
She gives birth to a baby girl. She has kept in touch with her mother and her siblings, hoping that her mother will finally love her. She spends time with her family, and especially her older sister, who had not been as lucky as Elisa escaping their stepfather. Elisa and her husband and child move to an apartment above a loud bar where Elisa has a job. Things are worse there than ever and Elisa finds herself smacking her baby when the child won't stop crying. She takes her husband's beatings at night, and then when she is alone she takes her anger out on the child.
A dramatic incident sends her husband to jail and Elisa stays behind with their baby. She is working in the bar when a man comes in and sits down close to her. When they look in each other eyes they recognize each other. He is the teenage boy from the first foster home she was living at. Her one true love!
They talk, catch up on the old times and soon they are in bed together. They spend much time together, Elisa prayes he doesn't find out about her abusing her baby. But he does find out and he sits down with her to talk about it. They decide that the only thing to be done is for Elisa to get help. She goes to the jail where her husband is and informs him that she is leaving him. He is not happy. She gives her baby to her new love and promises to come back for them both when she has gotten help. She kisses them goodbye at the bus station.
