During the year of 1992, 6 musicians were in different bands. Richard Kruspe, was the guitar player for "The Orgasm Death Gimmick", Christoph Schneider was the drummer for "Die Firma", Till was the lead singer for "First Arsch", Flake and Paul were both in "Feeling B", and Oliver Riedel was playing for the "Inchtoba-..whatever". Richard was not at all happy with the band, after playing for quite a while with them, so he set out finding new players to join his new band. He stayed with ODG secretly. Well in this time, both Christoph and Till were tired of playing for their band seeing as they both knew they'd get nowhere so they both set out in search for other players, but found eachother instead. At the same time, they met Richard Kruspe while playing a venue. So they had a drummer, a singer, and a guitar player. They played for a while but realized they needed another guitar player to make the sound more whole. Well they found Paul shortly after and they also spotted Oliver. They began to play, but then realized they needed something else. "Well," Paul starts, "In Feeling B we had a keyboardist, it sort of made it techno like." So it was decided. They needed a keyboardist. Paul got in touch with Flake and asked him to join. At first Flake did not want to be a part of that band for several reasons. Finally they coaxed him to join. He found out he was wrong about his thoughts on the band and he began to enjoy it. Shortly after they decided a name. Till mentioned the crash that happened in Ramstein when italian jetplanes crashed into a cheering crowd and about 80 people were burned or killed. They didn't want to name it Ramstein because they thought of it being too disrespectful to what happened. So they put in an extra M making it have two meanings: A battle ramm made of stone, or ofcourse the crash tribute. Only a short time after, they got signed and went on their way to stardom.
