You awaken within the return of your mind that of which was closed from all the sadness once around you. You now see that of new torments around you, everywhere. Virgil looks upon you as you stare confusingly at the souls and him. "We are now within the third level, Gluttons, that of the eternal, accursed, cold, and heavy rain. It's rule and quality are never new. Coarse hail, dark water, and snow power down through the tenebrous air; the earth which receives them stinks." You then hear that of a dog wise bark. You turn around quickly to see that of a beast with red eyes, a greasy and black beard, and a big belly and paws armed with nail. As you look in fear you then see it's three throats and the head that sits upon each one. Watching the beast as it claws the spirits, bites, and rends them. The rain makes them howl like dogs. Virgil looks to you and speaks: "Cerberus, a cruel and strange beast, the great worm some say." Cerberus observes you and Virgil as he opened his mouth and not one limb upon the beast was still. Virgil then opened his hand wide and took some of the earth. He then threw it with great force into its ravenous gullets. Cerberus then backs off from the attack and contunies to the spirits that he was once at. Virgil then leads you to a circling course along a road to a point where the descent is. You then see that of another beast before you. Not just a beast you think, but a wild beast. Virgil then whispers to you: "Pluto!" The beast then speaks: "Pape Satan, Pape Satan Aleppe" in a clucking voice. Your eyes then are filled with fear as you notice the beast jumping around singing his little song over and over. Virgil then speaks to you to calm you: "Let not thy fear hurt thee, for whatever power he have, he shall not take from thee the descent of this rock." Virgil then turns to Pluto and speaks: "Be silent, accursed wolf! Consume thyself inwardly with thine own rage: not without cause is this going to the depth; it is willed on high, there where Michael wrought the vengeance for the proud rape!" As sails swollen by the wind fall in a heap when the mast snaps, so fell to the earth the cruel wild beast, Pluto. You then descend into the fourth level.
