Tykocin a little peaceful town today, but filled with so many historical memories, that many people will never forget how their lives were changed. Tykocin is well known for the tragedy that happened to the Jewish and Polish people in World War II but there is more history before that.

In the Year 1522 a first Jewish family was introduced to the town by the noble family that owned the town. These 10 Jewish members were invited to Tykocin to take part of the trade. As time went by and more Jewish people began to settle in Tykocin, the Noble family granted them land to build a synagogue and a Jewish cemetery. The town of Tykocin evolved very quickly. Two different communities were formed in Tykocin, the Jewish community and the Polish community. During this time all the citizens of Tykocin were mostly traders and fishermen. Narew river became very important, more trading routes began from all parts of Poland to Lithuania.
