In June 2000, the Price Hill Historical Society finally found a permanent home when plans were made to purchase the former Provident Bank building on Warsaw Avenue at historic St. Lawrence Corner in the heart of Price Hill’s business district. The building has given us room to have a museum featuring displays from our extensive archives as well as meeting space, a gift shop, and a library and place to do research. The building required some hard work, cleaning, remodeling, and decorating to make our headquarters and museum, and on September 11, 2000, we officially moved in at 3640 Warsaw Avenue.
In the past several years, we have continued our efforts to fix up the building. We have cleaned, painted, generally spruced up the first floor, and created permanent and rotating displays. In spring 2002, we were able to get our roof repaired, and in summer 2003, we received a matching grant from the city of Cincinnati to repair the façade. The building has an Art Deco façade with carved sandstone features that were refurbished to their original elegance and the building was cleaned, sealed, and weatherproofed.
There is still much to be done. We have plans to remodel the functional parts of the first floor of the building, including the kitchen and physical plant, as well as to eventually tackle the large upstairs area, which is now used for storage and as a workroom for our display team, but which we envision as a place to allow our museum to grow as well as to provide more meeting space for our larger events. If you would like to make a donation to help our efforts, it would be more than welcome. Send your check to PHHS Capital Improvement Fund, P.O. Box 7020, Cincinnati, OH 45205-7020. If you have the time and skills to help us, we’d also love to add you to our volunteer list.
