PHYSICAL SCIENCE
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Physical Science course is a preparatory course in the basic concepts of chemistry and physics. It provides a foundation for the science courses that will follow. In the physics portion of the course, we will cover:
- the scientific method
- velocity and acceleration
- Newton’s laws
- projectiles and circular motion
- energy
- work and heat
In the chemistry portion of the course, topics include:
- the structure of the atom
- the periodic table
- classification of matter
- chemical bonding
- chemical formulas
- naming compounds
- properties of acids, bases and salts
- Organic chemistry.
It is important for students to focus on the quality of their work. For this reason, students will be asked to use teacher-produced grade rubrics to evaluate their work. The student evaluation will be checked by the teacher to assure fair grading.
