“Liberty Enlightening the World”
by Erica Bourdon Our mother, “Lady Liberty”, Standing tall for us all to see, Her torch forever shining bright, She leads the way through the darkest night. Her beauty, a gift from a foreign land, A symbolic torch held in her right hand, Placed upon her head does lie, A crown that graces the New York sky. As our nation grew from shore to shore, We’d always look back at the mother we adore, A woman, a nation, a sister, a friend, She will always be with us until the end. Yes, she witnessed what happened here, As the events unfolded she shed many a tear, But still, she looks on, for wherever our flag is unfurled, She will always be known as: “Liberty Enlightening the World.” |
