When we last left the Manhattan Mauler, Jakk Manhattan had just had an epiphany. Why should he let life drag him down when he should be grabbing it by the horns, why let so much potential be wasted, because of one's mind. The mind will always be stronger than the body, no matter how physically strong a man might be. Jakk Manhattan wasn't always the toughest wrestler, but his mind never let him lose. He would never lie down, be it in life or on the mat, no because he was too strong pyshically, but because he was too prepared mentally. We pick up with the King of Manhattan on his way to GWA headquarters. As of right now he isn't even a wrestler in the GWA, but because he wants so bad to start over, nothing is going to stop his attempt to claim what is his. Jakk is seen throwing a duffle bag in the front passenger seat of his car, he then heads to the back and shuts the trunk, luggage packed. He takes one last look at the shack he had let himself get to, the poorness attained through gambling and furious spending. Jakk shakes his head, and hops into his car. As he drives that road for the final time, he doesn't once look into his rear view mirror. Doing that would only make him remember these past few years, and remembering is not something those years deserve.
We catch up with Jakk as he finally arrives at GWA headquarters. The three hour drive felt like minutes, as Jakk's excitement for what is to come overshadows anything that was left in his past. Jakk takes a look at the large building. His neck is unable to make the full adjustment for how tall the building is. He shrugs it off, and enters the building.
As Jakk enters the building, eyes can be seen drawing to the figure. It always seemed like any place associated with wrestling drew the attention of the Manhattan Mauler. Even when he was a nothing, a nobody, for some reason there beamed some sort of charismatic energy from the young soul. Even older now, that same energy is present. Jakk walks up to the main desk where a receptionist sits, speaking into a hands free phone and smiling with a smile that couldn't be made through simple brushing and flossing. Jakk puts his elbows on the counter, as if to lean forward. The receptionist sees the man, and ends the conversation quickly with the other party.
Receptionist: You're, um, you're Jakk Man..
Manhattan, are you not?
Jakk: Depends who asking. In this case,
yes.
Receptionist: Um, well, um, what can I do
for you, Jakk, I mean, um, Mr. Manhattan sir?
The nervousness of the receptionist is
undaunting, not to mention very visible.
Jakk: Well, I was watching a wrestling
show the other day, and I heard my brother Gambit had just signed with
you guys.
Receptionist: This is true sir.
Jakk: Now they are saying this is big for
you guys, signing my brother and all. So I was sitting there saying to
myself, why don't we just make this huge. Gambit joins, then the
mauler, that can't be bad for business.
Receptionist: No Mr. Manhattan, you bring up
a good point there sir. Give me one second, I will get you an
interview.
Jakk: Thank you.
The girl quickly hits a button and someone on the
other end answers.
Receptionist: Yes sir I am aware you are in
a meeting. Yes sir, I know but....but Manhattan is here, yes Jakk
Manhattan. Thank you sir.
There is a moments pause, and then the reception
looks at Jakk with a smirk as if she was named queen of the world.
Receptionist: He will see you momentarily,
Mr. Manhattan sir.
Jakk: Thank you....Trish.
Jakk stands at the receptionists podium
momentarily. After a few minutes a few men grace the presence of Jakk.
He follows them to a room for a few hours, and then returns, followed
by one of GWA's reporters, Jade Green. The two walk to a corner of the
main floor, where two chairs are aligned facing each other, as to form
a set of a show. Both Jade and Jakk sit in the chairs.
Jade Green: Hey Jakk, thanks for giving me
the chance to get your first opinions of joining the GWA. It is an
honor that you would give me your first interview.
Jakk: Well, it is in my contract.
Jade Green: Even so, glad to have you sit
down with me for these few moments.
Jakk: No problem, Jade.
Jade Green: Guys, are we ready to roll the
cameras. Okay, and here we go.
Jakk: I'm ready when you are.
Jade Green: Hello viewers, today I have the
pleasure of bringing you a GWA exclusive. It has just been announced
that veteran Jakk Manhattan, whose claim to fame came in IWC and then
in ICW, has just reached a contract agreement with the GWA. Jakk, why
the comeback?
Jakk: There's alot of reasons I came back.
I came back because I have something to prove to myself. I came back
because my brother Gambit came to this fed. I came back because I still
have what it takes to become a heavyweight champion.
Jade Green: Does the money have anything to
do with it Jakk?
Jakk: You know, at one time long ago it
probably did, but no, I can honestly say that. It feels good to do
something because you believe it's right.
Jade Green: You seem like a changed man Jakk
Manhattan. How big was it for you to come back to the ring? Do you miss
the fight?
Jakk: It is huge to come back to the ring.
I miss the fight more than anyone out there. It's a battle, and I love
nothing more than being in the thick of that battle.
Jade Green: So how much of coming back had
to do with your brother Gambit joining GWA?
Jakk: It had alot to do with my coming
back. I was sitting in a bar in the red light district of Manhattan,
when I seen Gambit on the television.
Jade Green: Kind of a coincidence to see him
on a television show in a bar, late at night, on a station that barely
ever plays.
Jakk: I'd call it fate. I think fate has
alot to do with everything in life. Everything happens for a reason. I
believe this is my destiny. I'm here for a reason, I am on this planet
because I have goals to fulfill. And my next goal, join my brother
Gambit it wreak havoc.
Jade Green: Join Gambit with the Union Jakks
stable or the Union Jakks tag? I know towards the end of your career at
ICW you were tagging with Gambit.
Jakk: Right now, the Union Jakks are a
tage team. My brother and I feel that the tag division is the easiest
division to qonquer. There is practically no competition.
Jade Green: Now some people might see this
is a plan for you guys not to get in the singles mix? What can you tell
us?
Jakk: There's no plans, no secrets Jade.
Right now we are just going to beat our way through the tag division
until we hold those two belts. Then we will see where that takes us.
Jade Green: No tricks Jakk? If I know one
thing about the Manhattan Mauler, it is there is always something up
your sleeve.
Jakk: That is a good association Jade, but
I can tell you flat out that we, at this time, have no plans to go for
the singles division.
Jade Green: Tell me, is Jakk Manhattan
losing a step?
Jakk: No. If anything I am only getting
better. I might not be in the best shape of my life right now but hard
work and determination will fix all that. But Gold and Silver, don't
think that means I am coming out slow on Monday night.
Jade Green: Silver and Gold, yes, your first
match. They are the current tag team champs. How does that make you
feel.
Jakk: They are no good Jade. They hold the
belts mainly because the tag division is weak. Gambit and I will change
all that. Am I mad because it is non title, well yes. But you know what
Jade, I want them to be ready for us when the belts are on the line.
Right now they are underestimating us. They think because we are new we
are new. Does that make sense to you Jade?
Jade Green: Um, yeah it does. Because you
are new to the federation, you are new to the business.
Jakk: Smart girl. Right now they think
they have it sealed. When we defeat them on Monday, they will see we
are the real deal. Then they might take a step back and say, hey, we
have to take a look at things here. They always do that.
Jade Green: They as in who Jakk?
Jakk: Whenever Gambit and I joined a
federation, it was, who are these guys. After awhile, it was like,
whoa, these guys are sick. We made followers, only the best of the
best, and we took over.
Jade Green: So you are bad guys, huh, Jakk?
Jakk: No Jade, we are good guys. The bad
guys are the ones who take advantage of people, they talk smack, they
do things, people shouldn't be doing. We take care of those guys.
Jade Green: Now, Jakk, another point I would
like to say is that it seems every federation you go into, you draw
this hatred from the owners. Even being a hero, what is it? Your power,
your voice? What?
Jakk: I think you were getting warmer
there Jade. It seems that I take the frown when it comes to the owners.
For one thing, my record. I really haven't been beaten since I was way
way back in RDWF. After that, I just kept winning. That carried on from
federation to federation. The owners don't like that because it didn't
make for good storylines. But what do you want me to do? Ya know? But
Jade, you nailed it on the head when you said voice. Anytime there is a
discussion about something, be it meaningless or vital, people seem to
flock to my viewpoint. Maybe I am just middle of the road, or just a
popular guy, but I am not verbose. I say what I say and I go.
Jade Green: Excellent Mr. Manhattan. Just
one more segment, it is kind of new. I will give you a word, and you
tell me what it means to you.
Jakk: Sounds like a fun game, Jade.
Jade Green: I don't know if that is sarcasm
or truth, but okay. GWA.
Jakk: Opportunity.
Jade Green: Interesting. Gambit.
Jakk: Brother for life. Where I go he
goes, when he dies I die.
Jade Green: Nice. Gold & Silver.
Jakk: Overrated. But, the best of the
worst.
Jade Green: Okay. How about, Union Jakks?
Jakk: My coat of arms. The best wrestlers
you've ever and never seen have been with us.
Jade Green: Here's a tough one, Jakk
Manhattan.
Jakk: Leader. Charisma. Hope. I stand for
all those words. Oh yeah, tough son of a bitch!
Jade Green: One more. Jade Green.
Jakk: Cut the cameras!
