My name is Sierra Nevada. I was a figure skater for six and a half years when I decided in February 2007, to move on and persue my other intersts. I began skating at Skate Quest of Prince William County, VA (currently Skate Nation) back in October 2000 when we moved from NJ to Virginia. After making it to Freestyle 1 in ISI, we moved to Florida and I advanced to FS 4 before switching over to USFSA in 2003. I tested up to Juvenile MIF and Pre Juvenile Freeskate and made the decision to leave USFSA right before my Juvenile Freeskate and Intermediate MIF tests. My last USFS competitions were the Florida Open at RDV Sportsplex in Maitland, FL, 3/31 & 4/1 2006, where I took the Bronze in the Pre Juvenile Freeskate and the Gold in Pre-Juv Compulsories, and at Orange Blossom at TBSA, Oldsmar, on 7/28 & 7/29 where I got first place in the Freeskate. In 2005, I competed at Florida State Games, Orange Blossom, and USFS Southeast Regionals. Also in 2005 I did an exhibition program which was a tribute to the late Layne Staley (Alice In Chains/Mad Season singer) skating to "Am I Inside," by Alice In Chains which was shown at the 4th Layne Staley Tribute in Seattle, WA. It was one of my most meaningful moments in skating. In ISI I competed and won medals at The District Championships (Maryland), the Winter Classic, and Worlds where I won first in Solo Freeskate. My final event was the ISI competition on March 31, 2007 at the Ice Factory in Kissimmee where I competed in Solo, Drama, and Inerpretive.

I am 14 (April 2007) years old and I am originally from the NJ shore, but moved to northern Virginia in May 2000, then to Florida in August 2002. I have had the pleasure of working with some great coaches. My last USFS coaches were Tonia & Andrei Berekhovski in Kissimmee FL. I learned so much from them. I took my last few lessons with Inga.

I entered my first competition in Nov 2001. The ISI Harvest Invitational at SkateFrederick in MD. I skated to Lara's Theme from Dr. Zhivago. I won the silver medal. (To see my entire skating/competition history, click on "My Skating History" below.)

That's all for now. Be sure to check out the links. Thanks for stopping by!

I have had financial help, suppport, and encouragement from many people over the years that I skated. Without many of the following people I would not have gone as far as I did or had as much fun doing it. I would like to thank my grandmother, Marjorie James, who passed away in March 2004, and the late John L Padgett, both of whom had previously sponsered my skating. I would also like to give special thanks to Linda at Standing Ovations for all of her help with boots and blades; my former coaches Tonia & Andrei Berekhovski (at Ice Factory, Kissimmee); Roman Skornyakov and Tatiana Malinina,(at SkateQuest of Prince William) Petr Barna and Andrea Barnova (formerly of TBSA Oldsmar - you can find them at Sunblades now; Diane Lane, who was always encouraging; all of my early group coaches (Georgia, Marina, Yury, Andrei, Diana Deka, & Jennifer Tate); Lyndsi and Jason Williams; Angela, Alicia, and Christa Schrader; my brother Aron; my Mom who took me to all of the events, practices, and competitions; my Dad; my aunt Fatima Kaya and my Grandmother Dombayci in NJ; Nancy Layne McCullem; Mallory Carmicheal; Lisa Lay, who customized some of my costumes; Deb A, Leda May, Bruce, Roy Lopez, Shauna & Kelley; my cool cousin John Lesnick in California, and all of my skating friends.
