Mission Statement
Through the personal and professional knowledge of our membership in the area of people with disabilities,we will advocate to make the Western Communities a safe and inclusive place for people of all ages and abilities to work,live and play.
Terms of Reference
Mandate To increase the awareness of all Councils of the Western Communities of the need to establish, develop and maintain equality of opportunity for persons with disabilities in the areas including, but not restricted to, transportation, housing, employment, education and recreation.
Membership One council representative and alternative from each of the Western Communities: Colwood, Highlands, Langford, Metchosin, View Royal and Sooke. Citizens From Western Communities who, through knowledge and/or experience have an interest in advocating for the needs of the disabled. Other elected officials or members of the public are welcome to attend.
Meetings To be held the 3rd Thursday bi-monthly or at call of the Chair in the Colwood Municipal Hall or as determined by concensus of the membership. (Meetings may be suspended during summer months)
Quorum: Five members, including at least one executive member.
Term of office One calender year
Chair The chair and other executive positions will be filled from the floor through the nomination/election process.
Voting All members are eligible to vote but the preferred method to reach resolution is by concensus
Reporting Relationship with Municipal Councils Each Council Liason is responsible for taking resolutions from the IACDI to their respective Councils and for apprising IACDI members of municipal activities which involve or have an impact on people with disabilities.
Minutes: Will be recorded by members on a volunteer rotational basis and submitted to the Colwood Clerk within seven days of the meeting.
