Homosexual Rights in the Modern Era

Homosexual marriage in the world today has become more common, but still not accepted by everyone. Homosexuals are being denied the right to marry, but that's not even the worst of it. All over the world, homosexuals are being discriminated against, and even killed for what they believe in and how they love other people. How fair is that to lose your life just because you have feelings for another person who happens to be of the same gender. When we researched marriage laws for homosexuals and heterosexuals, we compiled a list of less than a page for homosexuals but found a 75-page article for heterosexuals. Over 74 less pages for homosexual marriage just because of the fact that it’s a same sex marriage? What happened to “every man created equal”? What happened to the unalienable right of “pursuit of happiness”? We feel that homosexuals should have the same rights as heterosexuals in marriage because just as heterosexual couples do, these two men or two women love each other and want the best for themselves. Marriage isn’t about whether or not the couples are heterosexual: it’s about the union of two people who wish to spend the rest of their lives together. On October 12, 1998, Matthew Shepherd was murdered for being homosexual. His murderers didn’t care whether or not he had a life, a family, friends, anything. He was homosexual, and that was reason enough to kill him. Just think if someone came up to you, said “I don’t like you because… _____fill in the blank____” It could be something you couldn’t help, like your skin color or your religious beliefs. Maybe it could be something you believe in like your stance on abortion laws or who your friends are. Either way it shouldn’t happen and if we keep discriminating and hating, it will keep happening every day.
