Do you where is the original site for the Merlion?

Standing at the mouth of the Singapore River, the Merlion sprouted water from its mouth. This was the original site for the Merlion.

Formally installed in the Merlion Park on 15th September 1972 by then Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew, the Merlion symbolises the ancient city of Temasek with its fish-like body and the head of a lion, was a design inspired by the legend of the discovery of Singapore by Prince Nila Utama in the 11th century.

The Merlion was designed by Mr Fraser Brunner, a member of the souvenir committee and a curator of the Van Kleef Aquarium. Built by a local craftsman - Lim Nang Seng, it was the coporate identity of Singapore Tourism Board from 1964 to 1997. However, it continues to be protected under the Singapore Tourism Board Act.

With the land reclamation project, the waterfront area of the Singapore Rvier had greatly altered. The building of the Esplanade and the construction of the Esplanade Bridge, enclosed the Merlion from the waterfront. Hence a new Merlion Park was constructed, overlooking the Marina Bay. The Merlion was then moved from its old residence to this new one in 2002. Unveiled by then Senior Minister, Lee Kuan Yew, the Merlion continued to sprout water in its new location, welcoming guests from afar.
