Do
you where is the original site for the Merlion?
Standing
at the mouth of the Singapore River, the Merlion sprouted
water from its mouth. This was the original site for the Merlion.
Formally
installed in the Merlion Park on 15th September 1972 by then
Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew, the Merlion symbolises the ancient
city of Temasek with its fish-like body and the head of a
lion, was a design inspired by the legend of the discovery
of Singapore by Prince Nila Utama in the 11th century.
The
Merlion was designed by Mr Fraser Brunner, a member of the
souvenir committee and a curator of the Van Kleef Aquarium.
Built by a local craftsman - Lim Nang Seng, it was the coporate
identity of Singapore Tourism Board from 1964 to 1997. However,
it continues to be protected under the Singapore Tourism Board
Act.
