Lesson two: Adapting to different weather and temperature changes (Dramatic Play and Language Arts)

Vocabulary:
Nature

Use the season wheel and have the students discuss the different weather characteristics for each season and temperature range. Ask the students what changes happen in nature, the way the dress and the way they live. Discuss topics like tress changing, leaves falling, rain, snow, getting dark outside, their play habits, why they dress certain ways in winter and not summer.

Bring out a big box that is filled with different pieces of clothing, accessories, and seasonal décor. Have one student come up to the box and select an item, have the tell explain what season and temperature the item would be appropriate for and why. Have the students put the items on or how they would use it and sit in the appropriate season, which is marked by a big symbol for that season. Continue until every student has picked an item and is seated in a season. After each student has gone discuss the similarities of the items the students are wearing/using in each season and then discuss the differences between them. Write the children’s responses on the broad as the discussion goes on.
