Bacterial Growth Requirements

Nutrient requirements| Oxygen requirements| Temperature| pH

Oxygen requirements:

Oxygen is required for aerobic respiration and energy production.
Microorganisms are classified according to their oxygen requirements into:-
  1. Obligate aerobe grow only in presence of oxygen.
  2. Microaerophile grow in low level of oxygen. (no growth in absence of oxygen, high concentration of oxygen is toxic also).
  3. Obligate anaerobe grow only in absence of oxygen (oxygen is toxic).
  4. Facultative anaerobe grow in presence or absence of oxygen.
  5. Aerotolerant anaerobe grow in absence of oxygen but are not affected if oxygen is present.
