The leading government role was taken over in a Russian
revolution and a new government was formed. This government was a
Provisional Government of elected officials.
Then there was another Russian revolution that took and
overthrew the Provisional Government of elected officials to take
power. This new government was known as the Bolshevik party that was led by
a Russian named Vladimir Lenin, and he soon took reign of the government.
1918-21
A civil war breaks out in Russia that led to two opposing
forces. The Bolshevik's win with there violent and brutal methods against
the opposing force and hold there power in government.
In the US and Britain, the communist scare was taking
form and people were beginning to panic!
1921-24
Russia became a communist country and Lenin continued to
reign the government
Russian became known as the USSR
And then shortly after that, Lenin, the leader of Russia,
died.
1924-1930
Stalin the came into power after Lenin died.
Stalin became an unconstrained leader (dictator)
Stalin had a goal to make the USSR a very powerful
nation. So most of Stalin's idea's were focused to building up the
industrious and economic situation in Russia at this time.
1930's
The economic problems else where were not so good
however, and a worldwide depression came about especially in Africa, Asia,
and in parts of Europe.
Then major anti-communist governments came into power in
Japan and Germany
1934
It is said that 1934 was the year that Stalin brought the
USSR into the League of Nations.
1935
Then Aldof Hitler came into power in Germany making very
clear his hatred for communism and his plan for change in Germany. This plan
was called the "rearmament programme".
At the same time, Hitler let Germany know of his hatred
of the communist USSR, and his desire to get rid of it.
1936-38
throughtout this time, Hitler stated to take over
portions of his surrounding contries such as areas of Central and Eastern
Europe.
Then in 1938 Hitler outstepped his boundries into the
Sutenland and claimed it for Germany. Britain and France, not wanting to
start a war, gave Hitler the land without consulting Stalin first. Stalin
was very upset and felt betrayed, and because of this event, lost trust in
Britain and France.
1939
Because of the events of 1938, Stalin made an agreement
with Hitler. This agreement was a treaty that said that if Hitler did not
attack the USSR, then Stalin would not go to war with Hitler. Yet, however,
this gave Hitler room to now attack Poland without having to worry about
Stalin interfering.
Because of these complications, the second World War
broke out (WW2).
1945
The Yalta Conference is held. Most historians say that
this is the year that the Cold War started. Most say that it started at the
Yalta Conference. (Feb)
The US used the first atomic bomb in war. (WW2) (August)
The Soviet Union enters our war against Japan. (August)
Then the Japanese surrender and WW2 is finally over!

Marshall plan is brought up and announced to the public.

1948
the Berlin Blockade begins.
1949
Nato becomes ratified.
