I would amend this translation only for the words I have put in square
brackets [], all of which I would change to the word "of". The word
[before]
seems more informative but is misleading since the XII day "of" the
calends of
April is actually eleven days before the 1st. of April (not twelve
or XII)!
For those confused by the Kalends, Nones and Ides terminology (and so
that
Ivan can implement this terminology authentically in his version of
Unix Cal
:)), I give the months of March and of October1582 in this terminology:
MARTIUS or MARCH.
OCTOBER 1582 A.D. (MDLXXXII)

I would substitute for "[still a February 29th]" the phrase "February
containing a 29th. day", since 29 February was not called the "bissextus".
