For yet another season the cross-country team was led by perennial all-Canadian
Sarah Ali-Khan. At the National Championships in Sherbrooke a few weeks ago,
Ali-Khan recorded a second place finish, which was a sligt improvement upon
her third place finish a year ago. The womens team won bronze at Nationals this
year for many more reasons than just Ali-Khan, however. Nicole Portley for one
recorded an impressive 10th place finish and was named a second team all-Canadian
for her efforts. The women's third place result at Nationals matched McGill's
best ever finish and can be viewed as an unmitigated success after finishing
6th last year. They also won their third consecutive provincial championship.
The men's team was not as successful but neither were expectations as high.
Their 11th place finish at Nationals was a mild success with top finishers Benoit
Lebeau and Brant Carson finishing in 33rd and 42nd place respectively. No other
Redmen finished within the top 50 at Nationals. The highlight of the Redmen's
season came at the provincial championships where in their best showing of the
year they were awarded silver. At provincials the men were again led by Danny
Lennox who finished 6th overall. -JE
