Vs Aberdeen Medics

Medic's Rugby team win again!

Dundee 14 - 7 Aberdeen

Squad: Gill Sinton Edwards Wilson Burgess Black Van der Veldt Carson Abbott S Martin Norris Betts A Martin Howie Dalton

The first match of the proposed 'Scottish Medics Rugby league', brought the first real test for this young team. Conditions were good, but heavy ground meant that it was always going to be a tightly fought game. From the off Dundee exerted the greater pressure, with some good rucking work by the forwards. The lineout was working like a dream, with Burgess claiming more than his fair share of lineout ball. However some careless penalties in the rucks were bringing Aberdeen back into the game. This was topped off by a fine individual run by their outside centre, who scored in the corner. This was converted leaving Dundee trailing 7 - 0 against the run of play. Happily all this did was get Dundee riled up and focused. The penalties stopped, and the whole team played with a lot more structure. This meant that after several phases of quick ball, Norris finished well from close range, and Abbott duly converted. Halftime followed immediately, and left the teams tied at 7 - 7. Dundee started the second half where they left off the first. A good kick from S Martin, led to their fullback dropping ten yards from their line. A scrum and a series of good rucks saw Van der Veldt crash in close to the ruck, with a war cry reminiscent of William Wallace, again Abbott converted. 14 - 7 and Dundee were looking good. However, Aberdeen then seemed to wake up, and exerted huge pressure in the Dundee 22. A good tackle led to Aberdeen conceding a penalty, and to huge sighs of relief S Martin cleared to the 10-metre line. The match ended in disaster with David Sinton getting his head badly cut, and having to be taken to hospital. Special mention to the forwards for this victory, particularly Carson, Burgess and Black. Things look good for the future with the return of some key players.

Man of the match - Carson/Burgess
