UPS MD-11(F) N251UP (48744/592) Del. 11/15/1995 to VASP as PP-SPK

One of the latest operators of the MD-11 is freight airline United Parcel Service (UPS). The company was in talks with DAC to purchase a number of new aircraft prior to the takeover by Boeing, but due to the uncertainy of the program following the merger, UPS opted to go with surplus MD-11s and have them converted to freighters. Arriving in Los Angeles, this Gemini Air Cargo MD-11 (F) rolls out on Rwy 25L. Gemini Air Cargo along with UPS were in talks with DAC to purchase brand new MD-11(F) aircraft when it was announced that Boeing would be taking over Douglas. Due to the uncertainy of the program caused by the merger, the airlines made the decison to buy surplus MD-11s instead of the new.
