• The Reunion

Several years after the end of Dragonball, Son Goku is shown collecting firewood. Chi-Chi asks him where Gohan is, and we find out that Goku has a four-year old son! After fetching Son Gohan, Son Goku flies off with his son to a reunion that Kame-sennin is hosting at his house. Far off, a space pod crashes onto a farmer’s field, and a tall, muscular person with a tail steps out. The farmer points a shotgun at him, but the alien simply catches it. Making a comment about the farmer’s low power, he kills him. Then, he gets a high power reading on his scouter, and heads off in the direction. The alien is disappointed to see that the power is Piccolo’s, and claims that he is looking for Kakarotto. Piccolo is annoyed and fires a blast, only to see the alien unaffected. Getting yet another high reading on his machine, the alien flies off once again in pursuit of Kakarotto. Meanwhile, Son Goku and Gohan arrive at the Kame Hut, and Bulma, Kame-sennin, and Kuririn are all surprised to find out about Goku’s son. Son Goku comments that the Dragonball on Gohan’s hat is genuine, and everybody starts to recall their adventures with the Dragonballs.

• Son Goku's Brother

Suddenly, Goku senses a great and horrible power heading towards them and in an instant the alien lands there. Kuririn tries to shoo him away and receives a powerful slap from the alien’s tail. The alien then reveals that Son Goku is not a human but a Saiya-jin, and that his true name is Kakarotto. Calling himself Raditsu, he asks what happened to Goku’s tail. Just then, Kame-sennin jumps up and explains that because of his tail, whenever he looked at the full moon he would transform into a great Ape with great strength. He also tells Goku that he doesn’t know about this since he had no memory in this form. Raditsu explains that Kakarotto was sent to conquer Earth, but he obviously forgot because he hit his head. Revealing to Goku that he is his elder brother, Raditsu asks him to join the Saiya-jin. Goku refuses, and then Raditsu kidnaps Gohan. Instructing him to kill a certain number of Earthlings until next morning if he wants to see Gohan again, Raditsu flies off.

• Goku and Piccolo Team Up

Far off, Raditsu lands beside his space pod and locks Gohan up in it. He gets an incredibly high power reading on the child, but dismisses it as a malfunction. At the Kame House, Piccolo touches down. He offers to team up with Son Goku, and since Goku knows that he can’t beat him alone, he agrees. Raditsu picks up Goku and Piccolo heading towards him, and meets them face-to-face. Both Son Goku and Piccolo remove their weighted clothes, and the Saiya-jin detects a boost in their power. Then, both of them go all out and fight Raditsu. They’re as fast as lighting, but the evil Saiya-jin is still a lot faster and stronger. After a while Son asks where Gohan is, and Raditsu tells him that the little runt is locked up in his ship until he cooperates.

Then, Raditsu leaps up into the air, and charges his energy up. He quickly unleashes a Double Ki Blast, and Son Goku just barely dodges it. Piccolo, however, is hit and he loses his left arm. The blasts go onto hit the mountains, and completely destroy them. Goku and Piccolo stand together on the ground, really bruised up. Piccolo says that he does have one technique that he has developed – the Makkankousappou, or the Beam of the Devil. Son Goku is told that he will have to last at least five minutes against his brother while Piccolo powers up for the attack.

• Piccolo's Special Technique

Son Goku knows that he has no choice, and runs towards Raditsu. Goku manages to connect a few punches, but they don’t even slow Raditsu down. A few meters away, Piccolo raises two fingers to his forehead, and a glowing aura surrounds him as he charges up. As Raditsu tries to punch Goku, Goku jumps back and hops up high into the sky. He positions his arms, and then starts to shout out for the Kamehameha blast. Meanwhile, Raditsu is really worries, as he sees that Son Goku’s power is increasing, and Piccolo’s is increasing as well, already over one thousand. Suddenly Goku releases his beam, and a blast of white light chases Raditsu. Raditsu stops running away, turns around, and meets the Kamehameha head on. There is an explosion as big as an atomic blast, but after the smoke clears Raditsu is still there, really pissed now. He lifts his hand and blasts Goku down with an orange blast. As the evil alien runs over to finish Son off, he detects a gigantic power level, and sees that Piccolo is fully charged up. The Saiya-jin knows that he can’t block this beam like he did before, and tells Piccolo to hurry up and fire it. Piccolo lets the attack fly, and there is a huge explosion.

The landscape is all torn up, and about half the mountain in the background is destroyed. Piccolo and Goku both can’t believe it, but Raditsu is still alive. The blast missed him, and only destroyed some of his armor. Now the alien is incredibly angry, and powers up to finish Piccolo off. All of a sudden, Raditsu screams out in agony, as he looks behind and sees that Goku sneaked up on him and now has his tail. Since Saiya-jin are paralyzed when their tails are squeezed, the alien is rendered helpless. Son tells Piccolo to charge up for his attack once more, while Raditsu pleads for Goku to let him go.

• Son Gohan's Hidden Power

Raditsu keeps on trying to trick Goku, and says that he’ll change his ways and leave in peace, and that he never really would have killed anyone. Piccolo screams for Goku not to believe him, but Goku with his heart of gold, let’s his brother go. With a sly grin, the alien kicks Goku back, jumps onto him, and starts to crush his ribs underneath his foot. Piccolo comments that Goku has always been too trusting, and Son screams in pain. Inside the Saiya-jin’s pod, Son Gohan listens to his dad screaming and starts crying. Just as Raditsu is about to kill Goku, the space pod bursts open into a dozen pieces, and Gohan jumps out, does a flip, and lands right there in front of Raditsu. He clenches his teeth, screams out, and with tears streaming out of his eyes he launches himself straight at Raditsu. Gohan hits the alien incredibly hard in the stomach, and destroys all surrounding armor. After that, Gohan loses the power and falls down onto the ground.

After regaining his balance, Raditsu heads off to kill Gohan. Goku says that Gohan is just a boy, and Raditsu says that he may be a boy, but he’s stronger than anyone, even himself. As Raditsu charges up to kill the boy, Goku sneaks up behind him and grabs him. Piccolo sees his chance and charges up his attack. Raditsu tries once again to trick Goku, but this time Son doesn’t let him go, and says that they’ll both die together. The alien tries to escape but Gohan’s blow has weakened him. Piccolo then points his fingers at Raditsu, and shouts out ,"Makkankousappou! "

• The Oncoming Saiya-jin

The beam bursts through both of their torsos, and as the blast is over Goku and Raditsu drop to the ground, blood flying out of huge holes in their chest (cut from the censored version). Piccolo walks over to Raditsu, and tells him that Goku will probably be back in as little as a week. The alien asks how, and Piccolo explains to him about the Dragonballs on Earth. Suddenly, Raditsu bursts out laughing, and blood flies out of his mouth. He says that the scouter on his face also works as a communicator, and that two other Saiya-jin have heard everything and will be here in one year. They will destroy everyone, and use the Dragonballs to wish Raditsu back. Piccolo is really pissed when he hears this, and blasts off Raditsu’s face.

In a few minutes, Kame-sennin, Bulma, and Kuririn arrive. They share a few final words with Goku, and then Son dies. Suddenly he fades off, and Piccolo explains to them that he has been transported to the Other World, and god, or Kami-sama, will probably give him training for the oncoming Saiya-jin. Then, Piccolo quickly grabs Gohan and flies off, saying that he’ll train him in this one year. The rest of the gang fly off, back to the Kame House and to explain everything to Chi-Chi.

• Training Preparations

As Kame-sennin, Kuririn, and Bulma fly off in the capsule air-car, Kuririn is unanimously selected to tell Chi-Chi and Ox-King about Son Goku and Gohan. Kuririn arrives at Chi-Chi’s house, and spends the night there. However, not only does he forget to ask for their Dragonball to wish Goku back, he doesn’t even tell them Goku’s dead. When Bulma finds out, she’s really angry. Then, she says that she’ll try and fix the scouter that she took off of the alien’s face. The next day, Bulma has the scouter fixed, and she tells everybody his or her power levels. Suddenly, someone arrives at the Kame House, and Kuririn finds Yajirobe standing there. Yajirobe tells him to go get Yamucha, and arrive at Kami’s Lookout for special training. Kuririn says OK, and Yamucha flies off.

Then, another air-car arrives, containing Ox-King and a very pissed off Chi-Chi. After a while, Kame-sennin explains what happened today to them, and Chi-Chi faints. Far off, in the wilderness, Piccolo hovers down and throws Gohan into the lake. After Son Gohan wakes up, Piccolo tells him that he’ll be trained so that he can help out in the fight to save Earth against the Saiya-jin. He tells Gohan that first of all he must survive out here in the wilderness alone for six months, and then Piccolo flies off for his own training. Gohan is really scared, and after some encounters with dinosaurs, he gets himself stranded on a really high rock pillar.

• The Journey on Snakeway

At the Great Enma Dama’s castle, Kami arrives with Goku. He requests that Goku be allowed to travel across the Snake Road and receive training from North Kaio-sama. After a while, the lord of the dead agrees, and Son Goku is off. An ogre informs him that at the end of the road through the clouds, he will find Kaio. When Son asks how long the road is, the ogre replies that it’s about a million miles (ten thousand in the anime)! Not wanting to lose any time, Son Goku gets ready and flies off along the road.

Meanwhile, on top of Kami’s Lookout, five special warriors have gathered at God’s request to receive special training – Yajirobe, Yamucha, Kuririn, Tenshinhan, and Chaozu. Kami-sama tells them that they must fight the Saiya-jin in a year to protect Earth, and him and Mr. Popo shall teach them all that they know. After that, the Earth’s greatest warriors start training.

• The Full Moon

The sun has set, and Gohan has finally woken up. He finds himself stranded on the pillar, and sees no way off. Suddenly, he gazes up at the full moon in the sky. Secretly watching over him, Piccolo can’t believe it when Gohan’s eyes turn red, he sprouts out fur, and transforms from a little boy into a gigantic ape. Oozarru Gohan starts to destroy everything in sight, and fires lots of Saiko No Kogeki Blasts. Piccolo almost gets crushed, and then he realizes that the ape gets its strength from the full moon. Charging up a huge Ki Blast, Piccolo hurls it at the moon and completely vaporizes it. Son Gohan just freezes, then slowly transforms back into his usual self. Piccolo also cuts off Gohan’s tail, realizing that the tail also aids in the transformation. Then, Piccolo gives Gohan a Gi with his Demon symbol, and also a sharp sword. After that, he flies off once again for even more training of his own.

• Son Goku in Hell

Meanwhile, months have passed and Son is still running on Snakeway. He sees a road cleaning truck, and asks the driver how much longer till Kaio-sama’s place. The driver says that he must be about a quarter of the way there now. Son Goku says that he can’t go on, and the driver says that Goku can have a ride. The grateful Saiya-jin quickly jumps onto the truck, and soon falls asleep. It just happens that the truck bumps on a corner, and Goku falls off into the clouds! When he wakes up, he sees a normal landscape, with mountains and trees. Goku assumes that he must have arrived at the end of Snakeway, and goes off to eat some fruit from the nearby trees. However, a huge club comes down on his skull, and Goku is knocked unconscious once again.

When Goku wakes up, he sees a blue ogre with HELL written on his shirt (HFIL in the censored version). This guy calls himself Goz, and says that he isn’t allowed any of the fruit on that tree, because it’s reserved for Enma-Dama. Then, Goku quickly finds out by a red ogre, Mez that he has fallen off Snakeway into Hell! Son Goku asks how he can get back up, and Goz says he’ll tell him if he can beat him in a wrestling match. Goku whoops the ogre, and Goz takes him to a giant seesaw like machine, where Goku stands on one end. Then, the ogre jumps on the other end, and Goku flies up to Snakeway. However, some weird force field prohibits him from reaching the road, and he falls back into Hell.

Next, the red ogre called Mez offers to tell him about a secret passage back to Snakeway, if Goku can beat him in a game of tag. Then, Mez runs off and Goku chases him. After a while, he catches Mez. Mez informs him where to go for the secret passage, and Goku runs off with a piece of Enma-Dama’s fruit. After eating, Goku runs off, but unfortunately he comes out of Dama’s desk! Realizing he has been tricked, Goku is forced to start his journey on Snakeway all over again.

• The Pendulum Room

Months have passed, and Son Gohan has finally mastered living in the wild. Piccolo observes his increase in power and confidence, and then he says that from now on, if the kid isn’t eating or sleeping, he will be sparring with him. On Kami’s Lookout, the fighters have gotten a bit stronger, and Popo takes them to a special room, which allows them to fight Saiya-jin from the past. When Tien, Chaozu, Kuririn, and Yamucha arrive in the past (Yajirobe stays behind), they find two Saiya-jin who totally whoop them. After losing miserably to the Saiya-jin, the Z Fighters come back to Kami’s Lookout, and are motivated to train harder and become stronger. After that, Kami-sama informs them that the weaker of the two oncoming Saiya-jin is twice as strong as the ones they fought.

After eating Enma Dama’s fruit, Son’s strength has doubled, and he quickly arrives at the halfway point on the road. He finds a grand castle there, and he is invited to stay by a lady known as Princess Snake. After a few days of eating and entertainment, Son Goku says that he has to go. Then, the Princess says that Goku has been living in an illusion, and reveals that he is actually deep inside the belly of a huge snake! Goku is really angry, and bursts out of the snake’s mouth. After that, he flies off once again on Snake road.

In the wild, Piccolo and Gohan train and train, and one night Gohan’s tail grows back. He transforms into an Oozarru again, and this time Piccolo finds out that the moon is being projected from a space pod. Piccolo fires a Makkankousappou and quickly vaporizes the pod.

• The Great Kaio-sama, Lord of the Worlds

After months and months, Son Goku finally arrives at the end of Snake way. He jumps onto a small planet, and is instantly pulled down from the planet’s huge gravity. After that, he meets up with Kaio-sama, a weird catfish like creature with an antenna. Kaio-sama informs him that in order to receive his training, Son Goku must make him laugh. After a while, Goku manages to do so, and then Kai instructs Goku to catch his monkey Bubbles, who is used to the gravity. After three weeks, Son Goku catches Bubbles as well, even with his weighted clothing on. Then, Goku has a huge meal, and prepares for his next task. Kaio calls out Gregory, a cricket with incredible speed. He gives Goku a huge mallet, and instructs him to hit Gregory. Son chases after him, but Gregory practically travels at super-speed.

Son Goku has another meal, and Kaio-sama talks about his heritage, the Saiya-jin. Then, Son Goku continues chasing Gregory. He manages to hit Gregory with a really nifty technique. By now, Goku is used to the strong gravity, and Kaio-sama decides that Goku might be able to learn Kaio-ken and Genki-Dama. After eighty-seven days, Son Goku masters both of these moves. Kaio-sama says okay, now he can leave and the Saiya-jin arrive on Earth tomorrow. Suddenly, Kaio has a horrified look on his face, and says he didn’t account for the time it’ll take Goku to fly back on Snakeway. Son Goku says that he thought Kaio-sama was just going to zap him back or something. Kaio-sama tells Goku that he can fly really fast, it’ll only take him two days now to get back. Son says that that’s still a day late, and then Kaio-sama tells Kame-sennin on Earth to wish Goku back. Kame does so, and Goku takes off at full speed on Snake way.

Down on Earth, Piccolo, Gohan, Tien, Chaozu, Yamucha, Kuririn, and Yajirobe have all completed their training. At 11:43 A.M., two space pods land in Eastern City……
