As Son Goku, Kuririn, and Kame-sennin arrive at the arena located in the Papaya Islands, the students look at all the great fighters that are present. Then, an authority explains that 137 fighters are present, and to decide the eight finalists, elimination rounds will take place. The rules are that no foreign weapon can be used, no blows to the groin, no killing, if you fall out of the ring you lose, and if you are down for a count of ten you lose. First off, Son has to fight a huge muscular man, who he easily knocks out of the ring. Son Goku then discovers that after their training he and Kuririn have become super strong. Then, Kuririn faces off against a kid, who used to bully him in the Orinji temple, and Kuririn knocks him out with one flying kick. Round after round, both Goku and Kuririn barely tap their opponents and defeat them. As Kuririn is fighting, Goku meets an old friend. When the person yells, "Roka Fu-Fu Ken", Son knows that it’s the old bandit Yamucha. Yamucha tells him that Bulma and Oolong are there too, and they all have a little reunion. Then Goku introduces Kuririn, and Yamucha sees that Kuririn is too strong for him. Then Son Goku tells Kame-sennin that they’ve made it to the final rounds, and Kame-sennin is happy for them. Afterwards, they’re hanging around the arena when a large man (who has never, ever taken a bath) walked by. Son Goku almost passed out from the horrible smell that the man gave. After the announcer explained the rules again, Son Goku has a big meal. Then, he finds out who’s up against whom. Kuririn versus Bacterian (the smelly man), Jackie Chun (his name is a pun on a certain martial artist) versus Yamucha, Namu versus Ran Fan, and Son Goku versus Giran. • Kuririn versus Bacterian Soon, the announcer yells that the Tenkaichi Budoukai has officially begun. First up is Kuririn against Bacterian. As Son Goku wishes him good luck, Kuririn nervously steps in the ring. With the clang of the bell, Bacterian quickly raced towards Kuririn. He throws a punch, but Kuririn dodges it. Then Bacterian uses a bad-breath attack and fazes Kuririn out. Then, he rubs his hand on his body, and gives Kuririn a whiff of the sweat stench. This was too much for Kuririn, and he fainted on the ground. As he lay there, the announcer said that this could disqualify him and started the countdown. Bacterian then jumped on him and started kicking him in the stomach. Suddenly, Son Goku got up and yelled that Kuririn doesn’t have a nose, he’s just imagining the smell. Kuririn quickly got up, and Bacterian was confused. He tried to spit on him, but missed. Then, Kuririn quickly kicked him and farted on his face. Bacterian was knocked out, and Kuririn was officially declared the winner. • Yamucha versus Jackie Chun Son Goku and Kuririn then talk for a while, as the judges allow Kuririn to move onto the semi-finals. The announcer says that the next fight will soon begin, and after a few minutes the bell rings. Yamucha steps into the ring, and everybody waits for Jackie Chun. Bulma hopes that Chun’s some hot guy, and when Oolong tells her she’s going out with Yamucha, she says that she can look, can’t she? Anyway, Jackie turns out to be an old guy, and the crowd laughs that a young man is fighting this old guy. The second bell rings, and Yamucha attacks. The announcer says that Yamucha’s punches and kicks are incredible, but Chun is effortlessly dodging all of them. Jackie Chun says that Yamucha needs to train more, really getting him angry. Yamucha tries his Roka Fu-Fu Ken, but misses yet again. Then Jackie Chun jumps up, does a somersault, and lands behind Yamucha. He concentrates his Ki onto his palms, and releases it as a gust of air. Yamucha is knocked out of the ring, and Jackie is the official winner. Son Goku is amazed at the old guy’s technique, and Kuririn says that he has to fight him next. • Namu versus Ran Fan Yamucha comes back disappointed, and says that he hopes to do better in the next tournament. Meanwhile, the announcer says that the next match is between Namu and Ran Fan. Namu steps into the ring, and reminds himself that he must win in order to buy water since there is a drought in his village. Ran Fan, a teenage girl, steps into the ring as well. As the match begins, Ran Fan attacks with a flying kick, and Namu takes the hit. In return, he barely taps her on the shoulder and she starts crying. While Namu is worried, she takes advantage and punches him in the stomach. Namu sees what she is trying to do, and says that he won’t be fooled anymore. Then, Ran Fan strips down to her underwear, and Namu starts to blush. Then, he remembers his mission to bring water for his village, and closes his eyes. He jumps into the air, and knocks Ran Fan out. The announcer declares Namu the winner of the match. • Son Goku versus Giran Soon, the announcer calls for Giran to enter the ring. Everybody then sees that Giran is not human, but a half-dinosaur, half-monster. Son Goku is called up next, but nobody comes. Giran demands that he should be declared the winner, as the judges and everybody search for Goku. He is finally found sleeping outside. Son Goku says that he had a good nap, and now he’s ready to fight. As the bell clangs, Giran tells Son that he has something in his hand. Goku steps up to have a closer look, and Giran forms a fist and punches Goku with full force. The judges are about to declare Giran the winner, as the monster boasts that no one can survive his punch. Suddenly, Son Goku gets up and says that the punch actually hurt a little. Giran is really angry and surprised at the kid’s strength. Son Goku leaps up, and gives the monster a hard punch in the stomach. Then, he grabs Giran’s tail and hurls him out of the ring. Everybody thinks that the match is over, but suddenly Giran spreads his wings and flies back into the ring. Then, Giran quickly uses his Sticky-Gum and spits gum around Goku so that he can’t move. After that, Giran punches him lots of times, and finally picks him up and throws him away. Everybody says that Son can’t do anything now, but suddenly Goku shouts "Kinto-Un" and lands on the candy cloud. Giran complains that this is against the rules, but the judges decide that this will be allowed just this once. Giran throws a punch at Goku, but Goku suddenly reveals that his tail has grown back, and wraps it around Giran’s wrist. With the monster’s added force, Son breaks out of the gum. Then, he shows Giran his incredible strength by destroying a huge wall. Giran is baffled at his strength, and forfeits. The announcer then says that Son Goku is the winner, and that the semi-finals are over. • Onto the Finals Son Goku is happy that he’s going to the finals. The announcer comments on what an amazing fight this was, and interviews Goku. When the announcer asks him how he’s doing, Son just stares. Then he asks if he is supposed to speak into the long black thing (microphone). Then, the announcer asks Goku how old he is, and he says 12. Kuririn asks how come he used to say that he was 14, and Son Goku says that he had just learnt that after 11 comes 12, not 14. At this, the crowd roars with laughter. Then the man asks Goku why he has a tail, and Goku says that he just does, and then moons the audience. The announcer asks Goku and Kuririn about their Sensei, and Kuririn says that Kame-sennin trained them. The crowd realizes that they had a furious battle at incredible speed that couldn’t be seen. Kuririn then takes out a pair of Bulma’s panties, and hurls them outside the ring. Jackie Chun dives after them, and Kuririn says that he has one. However, Chun soon realizes that he has been tricked, and he puts his palms together and shouts "Kamehameha! " A beam of blue light shoots out, and propels Jackie right back into the ring. The announcer says that this is the famous technique of the Turtle Master, and the crowd goes wild. But Kuririn doesn’t really care, and goes in a mad flurry of punches and kicks. Chun uses Zanzouken, and appears behind Kuririn. Then, he hits him on a pressure point in his neck, and Kuririn is paralyzed. The judges declare Jackie Chun the winner, as the paramedics wheel Kuririn outside the ring. • Namu verus Son Goku As the announcer shouts out for the next fight, Goku and Namu step into the ring. Son tries to copy Chun’s Zanzouken, but he realizes that he needs more practice. Then the two fighters start exchanging fast blows, testing each other’s strength. Suddenly, Namu hits Goku in the neck, and tries to push him out of the ring, but Son Goku’s tail trips him. Then Goku uses a tornado attack, in which he spins faster and faster towards Namu. Suddenly, Goku stands up and shouts out that that actually hurt a damn lot. Namu is horrified at Son Goku’s strength, and decides that he must have missed a pressure point when using his X Attack. Just to be safe, he jumps up into the sky once again, this time higher than usual. Son Goku comments that he can jump higher, and he goes screaming past Namu. Namu tries to fight him in the air, but Goku decides to go back down again. He reaches the ground first and just as Namu touches down at full speed he delivers a strong kick, knocking him completely out of the ring. Goku happily smiles as the announcer declares him the winner. He says that the final match of the tournament will be between Jackie Chun and Goku. Meanwhile, Chun has been watching Goku’s battle, and tells himself that if he isn’t careful he just might lose. • Final Battle – Son Goku versus Jackie Chun Kuririn runs up and congratulates Goku on his battle. Meanwhile, Namu starts packing up, disappointed that he could not keep his vow and get water for his village. All of a sudden, Jackie Chun walks towards Namu, and gives him a capsule to hold water in. Namu says that’s not the problem, and he doesn’t have money to buy water. Then Chun informs him that water here is free. Not only that, but Chun takes off his disguise and confesses to Namu that he is actually Kame-sennin in disguise. After that, he asks a favor of Namu. A while later, Yamucha arrives, and he’s convinced that Jackie is Kame-sennin in disguise. However, Chun points out in the crowd straight at Kame-sennin, sitting there and waving. Yamucha is dumbfounded, and leaves. Meanwhile, Jackie Chun tells Namu that he can take off the beard and glasses, and thanks him. Goku swings his tail round and round, and uses it like a helicopter to get back into the ring. • The Greatest Match Son Goku shouts out that he wants to blast a Kamehameha against him. Chun says that Goku can’t possibly do one as strong as his, and the two fighters start gathering energy. They chant the famous words of the Turtle blast, and in the end they both fire a bright light. The two beams meet each other, and it turns out that both are evenly matched. Jackie Chun is amazed at the boy’s strength, and they both stop their beams. As Son waits for Chun’s next attack, the old guy uses Zanzouken. Two illusions of Jackie surround Goku. Son Goku takes a guess at who is the real fighter, and is wrong. The real Chun kicks Goku into the wall. After getting up, Goku says that he’s gonna do that too. Jackie Chun tries to punch Goku but misses, and meanwhile Goku bashes his head with a double fist. Jackie says that he’s going to end this, and gets in a weird stance. He starts to get relaxed, then wobbles around. Chun gets closer and closer, and hits Goku several times. Meanwhile, Goku can’t hit Jackie because of his movements. Yamucha shouts out to Goku that this is Suiken, the drunken technique. Son remembers that he used to practice this with Grandpa, yet Jackie keeps on hitting him. Goku runs into the corner and kneels down, while Jackie asks if he made him cry. Goku looks up with a furious expression, does a flip, and kicks Chun into the wall. Jackie Chun quickly identifies the attack as Kyoken, the Mad Dog technique. As Jackie Chun tries to do another attack, Son starts prancing around like a monkey. He plays around, and manages to connect a few hits on Chun. Then Son Goku says that he did Saruken, the monkey technique. Jackie says that this is enough, and starts to make waving motions with his hands. Goku stares into the hands, and he soon falls asleep. Then, Chun takes off his shirt, and starts to gather energy. His muscles bulge out to enormous proportions, and he fires a gigantic Kamehameha at the moon. When the blast fades off, the whole moon is destroyed and there is no sign of Son. Kuririn starts to call Chun a murderer, but Jackie points out to the naked boy lying underneath the ruble. After Goku puts new clothes on, Jackie Chun tries to fire another Kamehameha, but it turns out that he has no more spiritual energy left. Goku jumps up and kicks Chun out of the ring, and everybody cheers at Goku’s win. However, Jackie Chun tells the judges that he hasn’t touched the outside, as his feet have dug into the ring.
