The Islands

We ran out to the islands on Wednesday. It was dead calm, the kind of day you dream about. It's cool being out there, even if the fish ain't biting. This time they were. We first hit the spot west of San Luis where we had a big school of Yellowtail holding last year. We fished, but we didn't catch. We only picked up a few bass and triggers trolling over the reefs near Punta Los Anegados and out in deeper water nearer Punta Piedra Volcanica. Hey, you gotta try it.

After that, we slid past the point and fished east of it. Only bass and triggers there too. OK, next we'll try out by La Poma. We ran out to the east side by Smuggler's Cove.

Here's a close up of Smuggler's Spire.

Just south of here, Eric picked up the first surface fish of the trip. He farmed it. Here he is by east La Poma.

A little later, I hooked up a nice member of the Tuna family. I think this is a Mexican Bonito. No apparent stripes on the belly. Anybody else care to render a guess. This is Captain Deano's name the fish contest. Winner wins a prize.

The Pelicans were perched on the south end of La Poma.

The Pelicans stacked up on top of La Poma.

They look ready for breeding season. This is how calm the seas were that day. Dreamy. That's Ed & Donna in the background.

This family of Mexican nationals was fishing in this nice Baja Runner.

Off to the south, was Punta Cabeza de Pato on the south end of San Luis.

On the way back, we encountered a school of Dolphins just northeast of Pta. Piedra Volcanica. We just had to stop and play with them. They were not the least bit shy. They swam under and around our boat. I had a hard time photographing them because of the lag on my digital camera, but I managed to get a few decent shots.

In this shot, you can see one under the boat, just to the left of the seat..

Here, a fluke is visible.

It was fun....I always like Dolphins.
