Our last full day in Baja had arrived. The previous day's winds had subsided completely: it was dead calm again. We waited a little while to see what was happening, then we decided to make a run out to the near side of Isla San Luis. We were a little leery to go out toward the Seamount right off the bat, after the wild ride back last Memorial Day. It was about 10:30 or 11:00 before we finally shoved-off. We arrived at the island near Caleta Paraje de Trabanco and made a few troll passes over the Punta de Anegados reef. Nothing of note came up from the depths. On the last pass, I kept trolling out toward Punta Piedra Volcanica. I snapped this picture of the ash flow on the Isla.
There was a good amount of baitfish action there. We ran into this small pod of friendly dolphins.
They followed the boat for awhile. I snapped photos like crazy, but really didn't get any outstanding shots. They crisscrossed my troll wake,
and followed the boat for awhile.
Bruce trolled through the sea, or was he going through the air?
When we got over by La Roca, off the north end of San Luis, we started getting a little action, but with the exception of one medium size Sierra, they were all Mexican Barracuda....slimy snakes. The birds relaxed on La Roca.
From near La Roca, I got this front side view of Islote La Poma.
At that point, we were feeling sort of skunked.
The water was like glass still, obviously. Bruce suggested we
make a run out another three and a half miles to the Seamount.
I was game. Eddie hopped into the middle seat, I revved her up
and we moved out. ![]()
