Tire Repair Procedure

1.
2.

1. Assess the degree of damage. Your flat may require a new tire or just a new inner tube.

2. If your tire shows threads, flaking, or peeling, it must be replaced. (The tire above is peeling and has become so thin that a rock has punctured the inner tube).

3.   4.

3. The tire must first be detached from the frame. Loosen the bolts attaching the wheel and remove it from the frame.   4. Separate the tire and inner tube from the rim. If necessary use a flat head screwdriver to pry the tire loose.
  5.   6.
  5. If necessary, replace tire and inner tube. Insert new inner tube into new tire as illustrated.   6. With inner tube in place, mount tire onto the rim, placing both lips of the tire inside the rim, (be sure that the inner tube valve stem is pushed through the proper hole in the rim).
  7.   8.
  7. Reattach the rim to the bike frame. The chain should be positioned around the gears as illustrated above. Before tightening the wheel, spin the tire and ensure that the wheel spins true. There should be no contact between the rim and the brakes or any other part of the frame.

8. Fill the tire to the recommended air pressure (usually 50-65 psi). Take the bike for a test ride, checking for leaks and that the wheel spins true.

That's it. Enjoy your ride!
