If you are interested in and excited about group time, or circle time,
then the children will be too! Here are some fun and inviting ways that
will get your group time off to a good start:
Be the Pied Piper: Lead children to group time with a song, a
dance, a follow-the-leader game.
Make children feel welcome: Help children find their place (a
pillow, rug or mat) in the circle.
Sing a rousing welcoming song: "We're Glad You're Here Today",
sung to the tune of "Farmer in the Dell", celebrates each child in the
third and fourth lines as the groups sings, "Give a cheer for Bryan's here.
We're glad you're here today."
Read a fun book: Choose a story that invites audience particpation.
Create welcoming rituals:An attendance board where children turn
over their name tag to reveal their photo is a great way to say "I'm Here!"
Introduce "Headline News": Let children take turns telling one
short piece of news about themselves.
Welcome Ideas: Invite children to brainstorm ideas about topics
and themes that interest them. Ask the children what they want to learn!
