S's on an S
Have the children trace the letter "S" and glue Alphabet cereal onto
the outline. Display the S's on a bulletin board with colorful drawings
of "S" objects.
Recognizing the Letter "Ss"
Introduce the letter "S" to the children by showing them the written
word "snake" and helping them to see that it begins with an "S".
Cut a large snake shape out of paper and write the letter "S" on it.
Have the children tear or cut out magazine pictures beginning with the
letter "S" and then glue the pictures on the snake shape.
Spaghetti S's
Overcook spaghetti noodles so they are very sticky. Drain and
keep spaghetti in a sealed plastic bag to keep moist. Give each child 2
or 3 strands of spaghetti. Show them how to form S's on a piece of
construction paper. Let dry. Ask them to make up silly stories about
how the spaghetti got there.
Shaving Cream S's
Fill a tub with water. Using a can of shaving cream, invite the
children to practice making floating S shapes.
S Sandwiches
Cut out several bread shapes from brown butcher paper. Give 2 pieces
to each child. Ask the children to find items that begin with the letter
S in a magazine and cut them out. Glue them to one piece of bread.
Place the
other piece of bread on top. Punch two holes in the side of the
sandwich and tie together with string, ribbon or yarn. Or simply
staple one side. Ask the children to tell you what is in their sandwich
and why!
Straw S's
Ask the children to cut a straw into several 1' pieces. Then
ask them to make an S shape using the straw pieces. Glue the S shape
to a piece of colored construction paper.

Eensy Weensy Spider
Eensy weensy spider went up the water spout,
Down came the rain and chased the spider out.
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain.
And the eensy weensy spider went up the spout again.

Make silly sandwiches:
Fill sandwiches with egg, tuna, or cheese. Cut into silly shapes.
For extra fun, add a bit of food coloring to the egg filling for a colorful
treat!
Bread Dough S's
Unthaw a package of store bought bread dough. Give each child
a small piece and show them how to roll out their dough with their hands,
and form it into an S shape. Brush the S shape with melted butter
and sprinkle with candy sprinkles, cinnamon and sugar mix, sesame seeds,
poppy seeds, or sunflower seeds. Bake as per package directions.
