M's on an M
Have the children trace the letter "A" and glue Alphabet cereal onto
the outline. Display the A's on a bulletin board with colorful drawings
of "A" objects.
Recognizing the Letter "M"
Introduce the letter "M" to the children by showing them the written
word "Mitten" and helping them to see that it begins with an "M".
Cut a large apple shape out of paper and write the letter "M" on it.
Have the children tear or cut out magazine pictures beginning with the
letter "M" and then glue the pictures on the mitten shape.
Marble Art
Line a cookie sheet, small plastic container, or a shoe box with a
piece of paper. Dip a marble in paint and drop gently onto the paper.
The children can roll the marble across their paper by tilting the cookie
sheet or container slightly. Use several marbles in different colors
for a really nice affect.
Macaroni Mosaics
Dye some macaroni in different colors. Ask the children to create
pictures by gluing the colorful macaroni on to a piece of paper.
Or glue macaroni onto heavy cardboard and the children can paint over the
macaroni once the glue has dried.
Macaroni Necklaces & Bracelets
Thread dyed macaroni on string, ribbon, yarn or dental floss to make
a colorful necklace or bracelet.
Mitten Day
Have a mitten day!! Pick up several pairs of brightly colored
stretchy wool mittens/gloves in different sizes at a dollar store.
Ask the children to wear them all day! Start out by mixing up the
mittens, and ask the children to help you sort them by color, by mitten
or glove, etc. Sing the Three Little Kittens (have lost their mittens)
song.
Read "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie
Give the children some M&M's. Encourage them to eat one everytime
they hear the word "mouse" as you read the story. Also see:
"If
You Give a Mouse a Cookie Unit"
M&M's
Help the children sort M&M's by color. Make letter Mm's with
the candy. Let them munch their M&M's when they are done!
Matching M's
Make letter M shapes in different sizes, shapes and colors. Make
2 of each shape, size and color. Place them face up on a table, not
in order, and ask the children to help find the matching M's.
