


The Pilgrims announced the selection of CF Al Burch in the second round of the draft. Burch will add further to the outstanding depth in the Boston outfield. In the third round the Pilgrims bolstered their depth behind the plate with Oscar Stanage. Stanage will bring his youth and enthusiasm behind the plate. Both players will begin the season in the minor leagues.
The Boston Pilgrims announced the selection of SP Lew Richie with their first selection (ninth overall) of the 1906 amateur player draft. GM Scott Vibert said "We're really excited to have the opportunity to bring someone of Lew's ability into the fold. He immeadiately brings another live arm into our rotation. I'm looking forward to putting him out there and seeing what he can do." Richie is just 22 years old and should help out a pitching staff that has been hurt by both injuries and by old age. The righthand throwing Richie was born in 1883 in Amber, Pennsylvainia.
The Boston Pilgrims finished off their second season under manager Scott Vibert last week. The Pilgrims finished off the season in fourth place, 4 games over .500 and 2 games better than last season. The Pilgrims are rumored to be looking for more pitching in the draft. They will have either the tenth or eleventh overall pick in the amateur draft.
Pitcher Bill Dineen and Centerfielder Homer Smoot each picked up Player of the Week awards this season for the Pilgrims. Dineen won the award on August 13th following a week where he was 2-0 with 1 SHO and 7 K allowing 4 ER over 18 IP. Smoot won the award on June 4th following a week where he hit .567 with 6 RBI. Pitcher Jesse Tannehill won the Pitcher of the Month Award for August during August Tannehill went 7-2 with a 2.70 ERA and 1 SHO.
The Pilgrims were pleased to announce that six Boston Pilgrims were selected to the American League All Star Game. With Six selections Boston tied Cleveland for the most representatives on the team. All Stars From Boston: Norwood Gibson P, Joe Sugden C, Erve Beck 2B, Freddy Parent SS, Homer Smoot CF, Bob Ganley RF. Leftfielder Cozy Dolan; among the league leaders in batting average, home runs, runs scored, runs batted in, and walks was very close to earning the 7th selection from the Pilgrims.
The Pilgrims were pleased to announce that star second baseman Erve Beck won the American League Gold Glove as the best defensive Second Baseman in the league last year. Beck was the Pilgrims 1st round selection in the 1904 draft.
