1. Get really good at all your tricks. Getting sponsored does not just come over night. You have to stand out in a crowd. No one wants to sponsor someone who can't make their product look good. You should be able to land your tricks with pretty good consistency.
2. Enter skate contests and go around to skateparks and show your stuff. Stir up some local talk and make a name for yourself as a sick local.
3. Try to get sponsored by a local shop and then move on to skate companies shoe companies and anyone else who might like you to advertise their stuff.
4. Make a video of yourself skating. Edit it to only show landings and don't repeat tricks. The shorter the tape the better. Show them what you can do, but don't make it so long that the people viewing it loose interest.
5. Be cool. No one likes a buttmunch. If your mean to the companies, no matter how good you are, they won't want you. You can be mean and bitter, like the metal melitia (Motocross) but you can't make the companies dislike you personally. If the company dosn't like your attitude, they won't see you as someone that they want to represent their product.
6. TRY! It isn't enough to want to be sponsored, or tell other skaters you want to be sponsored. You have to get out their and make companies notice you. I've been skating for 11 years. I'm good enough to be sponsored, but I havn't tried to get any sponsors. It just isn't important to me. No one comes to you asking if they can sponsor you unless your out there every day in every comp skating your butt off.
7. Keep skating. Eat sleep and breath skating. You have to love it. People can tell when your not having fun. And companies notice. They want someone who would be skating just as hard no matter if their sponsor is Birdhouse or their next door neighboor. So get out their and have fun, enjoy not having a responsibility to make someone's product look good.
