Beer Review: Shiner Bock

It has indeed been a while since I last tried a bock beer. As a result, my review of this brew may be affected by a lack of (recent) familiarity with the style. Nevertheless, I will proceed. This beer greets the eye with a warm, rich color and an interesting aroma. That first sip brings to one's palate a complex, yet smooth, flavor. Not much of this flavor, however, sticks around too long, as Shiner Bock seems to have little (if any) aftertaste. I was not too impressed with the taste itself, actually, as it did not really 'do' anything for me. Perhaps it's my lack of bock tasting experience. Perhaps it's the brew. Either way, I'd have to say that this beer is interesting, but not particularly striking. An okay choice if there's not much else to choose from on the menu. -- Brewmeister G

Spotting this on tap behind the bar at what was supposed to be one of Santa Maria's 'hot spots', Stinky's Grill, I figured I'd give another chance to a brew I knew I had not thought too much of before. Medium in both color and body, there were no hops or fruit notes, nor was there any 'bite' to this beer. Still, it was smooth. Overall, still just a decent beer in my mind. -- Brewmeister G
