Beer Review: Oktober Fest-Marzen (Ayinger)

I looked over my guide to the Cap City Oktoberfest and could not locate the Brauerei Ayinger at any of the listed booths. This was, I found out, because that company is actually Bavarian, and their beers were being offered at the Merchant du Vin tent. The folks there were opening bottles of two Ayinger beers, with a third (their Celebrator Dopplebock) being offered on tap. Determined to focus my efforts first and foremost on the Oktoberfest beers, I had to pass up on the Dopplebock (a beer The King noted was very good, as he sampled it next to me). Looking over an Ayinger bottle setting on the table, I saw that the label called the Oktoberfest an 'Authentic Bavarian Festival Lager'. It definitely had a sharper, stronger start than the two beers I had reviewed earlier in the day (Sweetwater's Oktoberfest Bier and the South Street Brewery's Oktoberfest). The medium-to-lighter color of this good-tasting brew matched its medium-to-lighter body. All-in-all, a good beer.
