Musical Director: Colin Hartley MD

Colin was born in Essex in 1960 and at the age of eight, after enquiring about playing with his local brass band, found himself taking home a Tuba and that was the start of his musical career.

In 1976 he joined the Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines and after studying at HM Royal Marines School of Music for two years he was drafted to the Royal Yacht Band as Principal Tuba.  During his time at the School of Music, Colin also became a proficient ‘Cellist and bass guitarist.  Whilst at the School of Music he studied conducting under the auspices of none other than Professor Walter Hargreaves.

Colin left HM Royal Marines in 1983 and joined the Scottish Police Service.  Whilst serving in Scotland, Colin played for many of the leading Scottish Championship brass bands including the Scottish Co-op and the now Kingdom Brass.

In 2000 Colin left the Police Service and moved to Derby to pursue a business career as a consultant accident investigator.

In December 2008 he was delighted to accept the appointment as MD at Audley Brass.  Colin resides in Derby with his wife Sharon and enjoys the occasional round of golf as well as dining out and sampling the odd glass of red!
