This page is committed to insights on products that can definitely be used as part of an effective weight loss strategy. Here I'll convey what products can support your weight loss and blood cholesterol reduction efforts; and explain how these products will positively impact your health. First however, it helps to draw your attention to WHY excess weight is so easily accumulated and so hard to lose...
WHY?
Most of the foods we've learned to rely on are an outgrowth of our culture and lifestyle needs. They are thus engineered to be conveniently stored and quickly prepared. They are also engineered to taste GOOD! Further, the tastier a manufacturer can make it's product, the more likely you are to buy it over competetive brands. Market competition and all.
Manufacturers make food tastier via the addition of our taste buds favorite primary flavors: sweet and fat. Problem is, these tastes usually come with lots and lots of food energy, more than we need per meal or per serving; a particular concern in view of the fact that our increasingly more busy lifestyles are increasing less physically active.
Those two elements are the sinkers: high calorie, easily available convenience foods; and busy lifestyles that require very little vigorous physical activity.
Add one or both of the above factors to a metabolism that is slowed down due to maturity, pregnancy, or even UNDER eating (Not eating enough, believe it or not!), and you've got a body that will easily accumulate fat. Even if you do choose to be physically active, but eat the wrong foods on top of an altered metabolism (a metabolism slowed down some by maturation; or increased fat storing enzyme activity induced by a pregnancy), you're still going to gain unsightly weight.
WHAT TO DO?
Lose that weight!
But you should forget trying to look like a Baywatch woman or some fitness model. Many of those women spend a whole lot of money and put themselves through some seriously stressful stuff to try to conform their bodies to some fanciful ideal. YOU basically just need to keep as much excess fat as you can off your body, 'cause years of excess body fat can lead to increased risks of breast and uterine cancer; cardiovascular disease; osteoarthritis; diabetes, and other potentially lethal disorders. But of course, if you want to set certain fitness goals for yourself, that's even better!
In order to lose that extra weight however - and keep it off - you're gonna first have to change what you eat.
Since food selections are vast in this land of abundance, no specific foods will be recommended here (There are too many potential substitutions to list. You can however, email for some food choices through the first link below. You can also request formulas to calculate ideal body weight; caloric requirements; and percentage of fat, carbohydrates and protein in your diet).
Generally however, the most important dietary manipulation you can make to decrease weight and disease risk is to lower your dietary fat intake to about 25% of your daily caloric intake; and increase your intake of complex carbohydrates. Complex carbs are obtained from whole grains, whole fruits and raw or lightly cooked vegetables. The dietary fiber components associated with complex carbohydrate foods may be nearly as important to human health as the micronutrient vitamins and minerals. Here's why:
The Effect of Dietary Fiber on Health
-Dietary fibers are generally classified as soluble or insoluble. Fruits and vegetables contain combinations of both types, with fruits generally having more soluble type fibers; while vegetables and grains have more of the insoluble fiber types.
-Dietary fibers can contribute to a feeling of fullness when ingested as part of, or prior to a meal; without the food energy associated with fat or refined sugars, thus decreasing the reliance on higher calorie foods to achieve feelings of satiation.
-Dietary fibers can also bind with lipids in our digestive tracts, and carry them out of our bodies with the fecal material. Lipids are a class of biomolecules that includes fatty acids and cholesterol, which are used by our bodies to make bile acids. Bile acids are important because they are stored in and released from our gall bladders in order to facilitate the digestion of dietary fat. With the removal of the bile acid building blocks from the gastrointestinal lumen by dietary fiber, the body will then extract fatty acids and cholesterol from other sources, such as the blood, and adipose (fat storing) tissue, in order to make new bile acids. This is the mechanism through which dietary fibers can facilitate improvement in our blood lipid profiles (lower blood cholesterol).
-Dietary fibers can also be metabolized by beneficial colonic bacteria, providing for their growth and proliferation. These bacteria can, in turn:
*Help to detoxify our colonic environment by sequestering and metabolizing ingested chemicals and metabolic products that can gradually contribute to the development of cancer.
*Inhibit the development of tumor cells in the colon.
*Produce metabolic products that can be used directly by the colon for growth and health.
-Dietary fibers will also increase intestinal bulk, which can improve colonic contractions, thus helping to relieve irritable bowel and promote a healthy bowel regularity.
Since high fat intakes (particularly saturated fat) plus endogenous estrogens, have been associated with breast and uterine cancer in some women, dietary fibers may provide an indespensible protective measure against those diseases. Of course, lowering fat intake (not trying to eliminate fat completely however) is even more important.
In view of the above, one product very much worth considering is Bios Life 2, which contains a proprietary matrix of fibers under patent numbers 4,883,788; and 4,824,672, specifically engineered for the "Method and Composition for Reducing Serum Cholesterol" (You can go to the US Patent Office website and enter the patent numbers to read more on the product).
In addition to that specific intent, the product's proprietary fiber blend has all of the positive effects described above, and can thus contribute to satiation; fat mobilization; cardio vascular, breast and uterine health; as well as healthy weight reduction!
Further, Bios Life 2 comes in multiple flavors, does not contribute to the caloric load, and contains the water soluble B vitamins, which are required for the propogation of the metabolic processes that "burn" fat and sugars for energy. Bios Life 2 also contains vitamin C, which can enhance metabolic processes (further contributing to fat oxidation); and a special from of chromium, which is required for the efficient function of insulin. Ineffecient insulin activity is a potential result of excess body fat, and can ultimately contribute to the development of Type II diabetes.
