DragonBall started out as a magna- The term japanese use for comic books - Created in the 1980`s by Akira Toriyami. The comic followed the life and times of a child named Goku, using cutting-edge adult humor to make its points. The comic started off as a rollicking road movie, with everyone looking for DragonBalls. As the comic evolved it became more of a fighting book, and thats the attitude taken by Dragon Ball Anime. More than 150 episodes of DragonBall were produced, and they led directly to DragonBall Z.

In DragonBall Z, Goku is an adult with a child of his own. With more than 250 episodes, this anime was tremendously popular in Japan and ran for several years. DBZ is based much more on fighting, with humor tossed in. Some of you American readers my not know this, but in Japan this show, like DragonBall had it all: Cussing, Minor Nudity, Racy Women fighting with blood, Perverts, Etc.

American kids dont care though. They love the show. They dont know what they`re missing. But Teens and Adults were outraged. They wanted their blood. They wanted Goku to yell "DAMN!" They wanted people to go to HELL like they did in Japan, and not go to the "Home For Infinite Losers."

Well the cries were finally heard. Much of the violece and blood is being left in the show. Funimation also recently started releasing uncut DVD`s to the public. The recent Trunks DVD`s have two versions: the American dubbed version and the Japanese version with English Subtitles. I highly reccomend that you pick up these DVD`s to see what your missing!!!

Dragon Ball produced yet another series called Dragon Ball GT. It was taken on by a studio that had nothing to do with Akira Toriyama, and was drawn by a completely different set of artists. This immediately turned people off to the series. But people hated the plot even more. It was a return to Dragon Ball's genre with Goku and his comrades seeking the Dragon Balls, but with a slightly different twist. It leaned more towad humor and alot less fighting this also added to the loss of people. Later the series changed tracks and went back to the fighting genre of Dragon Ball Z. This picked up a greater audience, but the show was still doomed from the start. The entire Dragon Ball series had 508 episodes.
