The Cell Saga begins when Bulma is told by an innocent civilian that he has spotted what looks like a Capsule Corp. product out in the woods. He says it looks like it has been there for quite awhile, so Trunks, Bulma, and Gohan go to investigate it. Upon reaching it, Trunks discovers it is exactly like the time machine he used to travel to the past-with one major difference. This time machine has been there for a few years. Trunks then plays with some squirrels in the woods while Bulma and Gohan finish investigating the strange time machine. Eventually, they discover some sort of egg that has hatched in the seat of the machine, and not far off, a shell of an insect that has shed its skin.
