Goku and his Family

Goku

Goku is the main character of Dragon Ball.
History of the person: Goku was born in the year 737 on the planet Vegeta. Presently, he weighs 62 kilograms and has a height of 175 cm. His real name is Kakarot. He is the second son of the third class warrior, Bardock. He was sent to Earth right before the planet Vegeta was destroyed by Freiza. On Earth he was adopted by the "Old Gohan" who raised Goku as his own and gave him his name. Goku had an accident when he was one year old, he fell off a mountain and landed on a rock. This caused him to forget his mission to destroy earth but it didn't hinder his super-human fighting capabilities. Because of these capablities he was taught Kung-Fu easily by his grandfather. After his adopted grandfather's death he lived alone for an instant, but that all changed when he encoutered Bulma, this is when all of his adventures started to take place. She tells him about the Dragon Balls and the search begins.

In his adventures he meets up with Master Roshi who becomes his master and trains him extremely well, also rivals who become friends such as Krillin, Piccolo and Vegeta. Goku is also the leading factor in destroying the Red Ribbon army, who were also after the Dragon Balls. The first person he kills in a fight is the Demon Piccolo. It is at this point in time that his true Saiyen background shines, and that he is capable of killing someone to save his friends. He surpasses the level and strength of the World Martial Arts Championship and he climbs the ladder of strength in the Universe. His Saiyen pride gives him the will to fight against enemies stronger than himself like Freiza, Cell and Boo. He marries Chichi and they have their first son, Gohan. His evil brother, Raditz, found Goku there and took away Goku's son in hopes of convincing Goku to join him and the other two stronger Saiyens, Vegeta and Nappa. He confronts him with his rival, Piccolo, and they kill Raditz, to do so Goku must sacrifice his life, and even his son Gohan was involved in the fight. Later on in the Freiza saga, Goku turns into Super Saiyen. This is obviously a huge turning point in the series, because it opens all kinds of horizons and allows the series to continue. Goku dies for the second time by the explosion of Cell to once again save the Earth. Whether he is alive or dead his heart always remains in the story of DragonBall.


First Appeared: Volume #1.


Characteristics: Goku is a natural playful boy. He likes to fight, and enjoys it when he opponents are stronger than him. When he has his tail he has the ability to transform into a giant ape (Oozaru) when he looks at the full moon. During this stage his strength increases by ten but he becomes completly uncontrolable. Also Goku reaches the level of the Legendary Super Saiyen when he is on Namek battling Freiza. During his training in Heaven, Goku surpasses that by going to the second level of Super Saiyen. Later on in the Boo saga, Goku reaches the third level of Super Saiyan.

Techniques: Amongst his most known techniques he his the "Rock, Paper, Scissors", Kamehameha is his most used technique, the Solar Flare (Taiyo-ken), the Spirit Bomb (Genki-dama), the Kaioken attack, and Instant Transmission.


His main battles: In his first big battle against the Demon Piccolo he came very close to dying. Against Freiza, he was fighting against a power that was way superior to his own, but that changed extremely quickly after he became a Super Saiyen. Freiza killed Goku's best friend, Krillin this caused Goku to have extreme rage and anger therefore he became a Super Saiyen. When he fought against Cell, he had to use the Instant Transmission to move Cell from Earth to King Kai's planet in order to save Cell from blowing up the Earth. Against Boo, (not against the Fat boo) Goku was not at the same level as Boo, so he fused with Vegeta, who made the super fighter, Vegeto. As they were coming close to victory Boo transformed once again and this changed the situation to the worse. Finally Goku used a Spirit Bomb which killed Boo indefinitely.


World Champion Fighting Tournament: Goku finished second in the 21st and 22nd editions of this tournament. He was the World Champion in the 23rd edition of the tournament. He didn't finish his fights in the 25th due to the visit of Kaioshin and Babidi. In the 28th tournament he faces the reincarnation of Boo, Oob, and trains him in Heaven. This is near where Akira Toriyama ends Dragon Ball Z.


Anime: In the anime, he faces a lot more adversaries. In the series "Dragon Ball" he has lots more adventures such as: he would meet Master Roshi as well as Mutaito (the person who trained Master Roshi), when he travels back in time. In "Dragon Ball Z" he falls from Snake Way, and he meets Princess Snake who tried to seduce him, while he was going to go to see King Kai to recieve his special training. After his fight against Cell, he participates in a Fighting Tournament in Heaven in which he wins representing the Northern part of the Galaxy. Goku also enjoys camping, and races. Goku is really a family man though because he mentions several times that all he needs is his family.

Gohan

Goten

Chichi

Chichi is the wife of Goku, and daughter of Ox-King (Gyumao). Believe it or not but her name means breasts. Mr. Toriyama getting carried away?


History of the Person: We first meet Chichi when she was a little girl, looking for Master Roshi's house, to ask for the Ban-Sho fan to put out the fire on Fire Mountain. There, Goku meets up with Chichi requested by Gyumao, or the Ox-King. They head to Master Roshi's house. On route to his house, Goku does "pan pan" on Chichi's privates, which is the innocent boy's way of determining a boy from a girl. Chichi interprets this as a "promise of marriage". After she asks him to promise to marry him, and he agrees, Goku was thinking that she meant some kind of food. Goku never showed up for the marriage. Chichi went to meet up with him in hopes of refreshing his memory at the 23rd World Champion Fighting Tournament. She confronts him, and battles him, and loses very quickly. She promises to tell Goku her name only if he beats her, which he easily does so with a gust of wind, knocking her out of the ring. Goku didn't remember her at all, and that just made the already mad female, even angrier. She then tells Goku her name, and he is very surprised, and he remembers his promise. But the clueless Goku we all know and love didn't and doesn't know what marriage is! He had to ask Krillin what it was. They got engaged there on the ring, and after the tournament, Goku grabs her hand and takes her away on the Nimbus and heads for their new life together. But, most people think Chichi is nothing but a bitch, but cut the woman some slack! She hasn't always had an easy life, her husband dies against Raditz, and again by Cell. She is killed by Boo, who turns her into an egg and then crushes her with his foot. But, she also has wonderful things that happen to her, such as the birth of her first son, Gohan, and then again Goten.


First Appeared:Volume #1.


Characteristics: Chichi is a very cute character, but never judge a book by it's cover. She is stubborn as a mule, bossy, and very tough. But she also is considerate and loving. Her father had also taught her martial arts, which makes her a very good fighter (but not comparable to her husband!) She wants her son, Gohan, to be a scholar, and makes him study very hard! But, with her second son, Goten, she seems to ease up on him, and even teaches him some martial arts, (What a surprise!) which I think must make Gohan a little pissed, but maybe he convinced Chichi to ease up a bit more on Goten.


Techniques:Chichi has a fighting style that resembles Master Roshi's. Chichi's most dangerous attack was a very powerful helmet which she used to protect herself. The blade at the top could be thrown and cut through anything (even through the great Master Roshi's head), and the helmet can also shoot a little laser.
Her Main Battles: Chichi's only real battles were against that dinosaur in her first appearance. She also manages to punch-out the mother of Idasa and Ikose, the two little boys who compete against Goten and Trunks in the 25th Tournament(possibly the coolest punch in the series!).


World Championship Fighting Tournament: She participates in the 23rd Tournmanent, but loses to Goku, Who only uses wind to beat her.


Anime: In the anime, Chichi is there to embarass the young Goku, by clinging onto him when the Fire Mountain flames up again, and hugging him and holding onto him. She also wears her deceased mother's wedding dress. In the first movie, "The Dead Zone", she shows us her fighting techniques when she is trying to save Gohan from Garlic Jr.'s demons, who want to steal him. It is quite obvious that Chichi loves her kids because she is always worrying about them, especially Gohan. Chichi actually does love Goku even if she doesn't always show it, there are little clues and signs that she does. Goku also loves Chichi back.

The Ox-King

The Ox-King is Goku's father in law, and Chichi's father.


History of the Person: In his younger years, The Ox-King was the second student of Master Roshi, and his best friend was Old Gohan.


First Appeared:Volume #1.


Characteristics: In his first appearance, The Ox-King's name struck terror into those who heard it, and was sometimes called "The Demon King", and killed numerous people who were trying to steal his treasure. When he became grandfather to Gohan, he calmed down his violent ways, and spent most of his days at their home. The Ox-King always tries to calm down Chichi when she is angry (not an easy feat) at Goku or their sons. Because Goku and Chichi don't work, the generous man gives his daughter and her new husband all of his treasure. He has a booming voice, which terrifies a lot of people, including Oolong, who wets his pants.


Anime: In the anime, Ox-King is very protective of his wife's wedding dress, and wishes very much that his daughter would wear it on her wedding day. He keeps it as a souvenir to remember his dead wife.

Raditz

Raditz is Goku's lost brother.


First Appeared:Volume #17


Characteristics:Raditz is the first son of, Bardock. Raditz is raised by the Saiyen traditions, with no heart and no compassion for anyone, not even for his lost brother htat he would kill without hestitation. He is a warrior of low class, he doesn't have experience in battles when he fights people stronger than him. His fighting power is low (1,200) compared with the two other Saiyens. (Nappa 4,000 and Vegeta 18,000) Raditz never trained his tail, so that is why when Goku grabbed his tail he couldn't move. Nappa and Vegeta made fun of Raditz because he didn't train his tail, the weak point of the Saiyens.


His Main Fights:Raditz was in control of the battle between Goku and Piccolo. Until Goku grabbed his tail, even though he escaped of it, an enraged Gohan then gave him a shot which caused Raditz to lose a lot of his power. Goku then was holding him from behind and Piccolo's Special Beam Cannon Attack(Makankosappo) went right through both of the Saiyens and killed both of them. Then Piccolo mentioned about the Dragon Balls about how it could grant any wish, and that made Vegeta interested in the planet Earth. This is where the story of Dragon Ball Z really takes off.


Anime:Just before coming to Earth Raditz was with Vegeta and Nappa and they just dominated the planet Shick under the order of Freiza. In the Anime Raditz doesn't tell Goku about his complete origin, like in the manga. King Kai tells Goku about everything of his origin, and finishes what Raditz started.

Bardock

Pan

Pan is the daughter of Gohan and Videl.


History of the Person:Pan is a quarter Saiyen from her dad and three quarters Saiyen from her mom. Pan is born after the disappearance of Boo. Her Grand-oarents are Goku and Mister Satan which makes her have a very prestigious family. Pan really likes to train with grandfather(don't worry NOT Satan)actually surprise, surprise, Goku. Pan would love it if she could spend more time with Goku. Satan treats his grand-daughter like she was a cute cat or rabbit, even though she is about 10000 times stronger than him. Satan also spoils Pan because he is so, so rich.


First Appeared:Volume #42


Characteristics:Pan has the face of her motherand the black eyes and black hair of her father. Pan is only a quarter Saiyen because of this she can't transform into a Giant Ape (Oozaru)or into a Super Saiyen that is too bad for Pan because she really likes to fight just like her grandfather. Even because she can't she still has extremely high fighting power. Gohan, Goten, and Trunks don't like to train.
