Hi! Welcome to my Dragonball
page!
What is Dragonball you ask?
You must be really lost! ^_~
Dragonball is the creation
of Akira Toriyama (did the Chronotrigger RPG) in the Mid-80's. It was based
on a Chinese story about a monkey-tailed human Were-ape! But Dragonball
the Anime is much more popular than that story! It follows a Boy named
Gokou throughout his life. The story enriches in Dragonball Z when we learn
of the War race called Sayjins that Gokou is a member of, though he was
sent to Earth as a baby.
The Dragonballs are
seven mystical pearls with magical stars in them. Whoever finds these balls
gets to make a wish. Be it for power, money, immortality, or a boyfriend,
the Eternal Dragon Shenlon will grant the wish and then scatter the Balls
back over the face of the Earth. In each way, the stories of Dragonball
revolve around trying to make these wishes or the attempt to keep those
who are evil from making them.
Dragonball is a part of Anime (ahh-nee-may is the way the Japanese say it, but ann-i-may is accepted by most american fans). Anime is what the Japanese(borrowed from French) call any kind of animation. People can argue about it, but I think Anime's unique flavor comes from the attention to detail in the stories. The most popular anime are long and well thought out serials. It should be noted that Anime is not a synonym for cartoon. However, Dragonball Z is currently being evolved into a cartoon as more and more of it's Japanese-ness is converted to American; censored, edited and re-written instead of translated to warp the story. I used to like dubbed Dragonball. Now I only watch Dragonball subs.

Wednesday, June 14, 2000 My God! How long did it take? Please don't ask! But I finally finished my fanfic based on the anime Ranma. It's a mushy story and will probably only make sense to those familiar with Ranma.

.......well what's happening? If you have Cartoon Network or like watching the dubbs, you know what's going on. Toonami is bringing more Anime to the states. All I can say is, Thank you Dragonball Z. Thanks for introducing Anime to an American audience, even though it means sacrificing some parts of your great music and most of your story and humor. Even though more Anime is becoming available to *winces* children and *cries* edited....more teens (and cool adults :p) WILL notice it and maybe we can get a demand for commercial subtitled and quality dubbs.
Oh, and if you want to see my old DBZ: Season 3 rant
