Halloween 5 : The Revenge of Michael Myers title

Tag Line : Michael Myers Lives!

Halloween 5 : The Revenge of Michael Myers After thoroughly enjoying part 4, I was really looking forward to this next instalment in the Halloween saga. So you can imagine my utter disappointment when I popped the tape of this film in my Video recorder and found out what a load of rubbish this was.

Filmed virtually straight after part 4, the film features all the main cast members of the previous movie including Danielle Harris as Jamie, Beau Starr as the Sheriff and Ellie Cornell as Jamie's adopted sister. Not forgetting the enigmatic Donald Pleasance as Dr Loomis.

Well, in spite of being shot to pieces by the police, then falling into an old mineshaft, it seems Michael Myers survived (surprise surprise). Managing to crawl out  via a water duct, Myers makes his way down river and lands on the door of some old hermit where he collapses after his ordeal.

He then spends a whole year recuperating, then on October 31st '89 dons his favourite Halloween mask and repays the old hermits kindness for looking after him by brutally murdering him. He then makes his way back into town to resume his hunt for young Jamie Lloyd.

It seems that since part 4, Jamie is now residing in an institution, unable to talk, and has developed a telepathic link with uncle Michael (what?). Unfortunately, because Jamie can't talk she is unable to tell Loomis as to Myers whereabouts.

Most of the film is spent with Michael Chasing young Jamie around the place again and very little else, the plot also isn't helped by the oddball antics of 2 goofy cops who act like a couple of stooges in a failed attempt to bring some comic relief to the film. Although the plot does have one interesting feature, the arrival of a mysterious man in black who appears to be following Myers around, although his identity and interest with Myers are never explained.

My suspicions of how good (bad) this film was, were first aroused when it was first released in the UK direct-to-video and totally missed out the cinema. This film is even worse than "Friday the 13th part 5" but I recommend you see it so you can understand the plot of part 6, but not for any other reason.

Overall Marks 5/10

Other Information.

  • Alternate tag lines "Michael Lives, And This Time They're Ready", "He's Back With A Vengeance".

  • The role of Michael Myers was played this time by Don Shanks.

  • Director Dominique Othenin-Girard also directed the appalling made-for-TV movie "Omen 4 : The Awakening"

  • Allan Howarth once again did the music for this film, making this the fourth Halloween movie he has scored.

  • The films budget was $5 million.

  • The German theatrical version was cut to get a "16" rating. On video, two versions were released, the "16"-one for sell-thru and an uncut "18"-rated version for the rental release

  • There was a scene cut from the ending, following the police station massacre. This would have showed Michael Myers and young Jamie being abducted by the man in black. This scene was used in the producers cut version of Halloween 6, but not the theatrical release.
