Statement From Editor 3 (4/30/2003 : 11:29 PM)
Well, well, well. I'm making this statement for general
consumption. Who here would like to see more stories? Who would
like to see "beta" software, including other things? Well, e-mail me damn
it. and I will do my best to respond as soon as I check the e-amil.
I'm looking for people who have ideas, who have opinions, and those who want to
see that their money that they put into DeVry will be worth something down the
road.
D.U. is DeVry (4/30/2003)
WTF is the deal with DeVry? That's my question. This is just
general assault, however, how can anyone stand by while this school sucks to
the point where students aren't being taught everything that they should know
for the work place. In the case of CIS, there are some of us that feel
cheated due to the fact that we haven't been taught "industry" standards.
This pisses me off, but what else is new. I say that we get a full
refund, or remove students who curse and get pissy with their computers.
I say this because it's students like these that are holding the rest of us
back.
Quality Control (4/30/2003)
Well, as we all know, DeVry can be a pain in the ass when it comes to
assumptions etc. etc.. However! A major problem seems to lie with
the students themselves. I'm sure this comes as surprising seeing as how
I'm for the students in about 99% of the cases. In this situation, they
should make sure that students actually KNOW what a computer is and have
general literacy in such things. Regardless if you're here for business
or electronics, it should be understood that they should be forced to know a
computer. When a student doesn't know how to copy and paste in a
technicial school, something is VERY WRONG with that student. I seriously
believe that the said student be removed IMMEDIATELY from class and beaten with
a Mac. If they don't know how to use a computer, they shouldn't be
allowed to attend classes. Period...
Attendence Systems, etc. (4/29/2003)
First off, I would like to state that I'm sorry for such a delayed update.
I'm sure many of you have been wondering where the hell I was. Or
at least those that came to my site. I'm going to making a few
changes. First, the counter is probably going go bye-bye. Second,
I'm working on a new logo for the site, so any comments would be welcome with
open arms. I would like to thank those whom have bookmarked my site, whom
have linked with it and those who felt like checking out what I have been
talking about. The site has been up for more than a year now, and it
would be nice to start getting some coverage. The more hits I get, the
higher the chance will be that I will actually update this more
frequently. I'm also going to put up a "Archives" section to store last's
years posts. Granted they were far and few between, I still need SOME
structure for this beast of mine. Now that I have bored you to death with
non-sense, on to the issue @ hand: Attendence. You wouldn't believe
the malarky that I have been through with these damned attendence
systems. I mean seriously, like they're going to suspend me based on some
machine that doesn't work right in the first place. Oye... Now that
I got that out of my system, I'm also looking into setting up a forum of
sorts. Once I do that, it should make posting comments and ideas much
MUCH easier. Until then, please give my site a chance, it's still
growing, just taking time.
Loan Systems (7/03/2002)
Most of us know that its hard to live on your own when you have to pay for rent
and other bills while going to school, but its even worse when you have to
worry about trying to get your loans when the school won't give you YOUR OWN
MONEY without some stupid process. Its not like they have to pay back any
loans, its your money! I feel that anyone taking out a Select Loan from
Educaid or any other alternative loan, be prepared for hell and chaos before
you start getting your money. It may not happen, but just be ready.
Statement From Editor 2 (6/29/2002)
Wow, it has been awhile hasn't it? Well, I would first like to say that
DeVry is continually getting shittier all the time. However, when things
seem bleak, things might get better. Several staff have stated that they
are making an exit to a different location, which could be good as most of us
know that there are assholes working there. Despite the claim that DeVry
is a popular school and now a university, it still is lacking in student
interaction that promotes progress. People keep dropping out and I
estimate that many new students this next semester will. If you're a new
student and wish to know more, please
e-mail me.
Mo' Money (5/20/2002)
It has come to my attention that the tuition is going up. No surprise
there. However, their excuses seem to range from school style to laptop
leasing. I'm not at all impressed. I don't want to be forced to pay
for a laptop, when I don't need one, and then give it back to the school and
not see any return for it.. I think someone needs to put a stop to the madness
at that looney bin, DeVry University.
Statement From Editor 1 (5/10/2002)
Damn people, I need support! I do my best here, but I feel like I'm a one
man army! With that said, I'm glad that some of you are looking at my
page. I need word of mouth though, and some e-mails. Possibly
suggestions? I'm a student who voices by means of this media. If
you want your voice heard, yell here. I will not disclose names or other
possibly damaging info. You can sue me if I do so. :-) Well,
I hope you are all having a nice time, as I'm not 'till my voice is echoing
through the halls of DeVry....
Motivation: NOT the topic of DeVry (5/10/2002)
When I first started DeVry, the student count was what most people would expect
for the school; however, I have notice that its to the point where everyone
seems to be dropping out left and right. Its not because they don't like
their program, its because of crappy teachers and staff, more over the
staff. Students are NOT getting motivated to complete their studies by
the school. They have to seek motivation from other places and a school
that motivates students, gets a higher view from students and outside
sources. Maybe DeVry should look into Tim Robbins.
Slacked Security? (4/30/2002)
This might be what most people think when the news was announced today during
programming class. I thought it to be interesting that FINALLY, the ITs
have noticed that students were not happy with the network. Although,
they are still acting like they are shutting down a high school. If the
students need to be treated as such, maybe they shouldn't be going to
college. On the other hand, maybe the school should learn that most of
the students pay $5000 a semester for a service. Of this service, we
should also be provided with good internet connections and the ability to do
homework to the fullest extent. I will be 100% happy when we can program
without tweaking this and that to make sure we can test our console apps.
The Wrath of Khan! (4/25/2002) (Updated: 4/30/2002)
As most DeVry students know, the computers are locked down tighter than Fort
Knox, and for what purpose we ask? Well, its maybe because DeVry is worse
than the government and would like to regulate students with an iron
fist. Or they fascist pigs and would like to make sure that those with
limited internet get to enjoy limited internet... Whatever the reason, an
IT by the name of Khan has the network under his grimy little hands. As
those who don't know how this is, he's what most would call a stereotype of a
young IT, but he has become to be known in certain circles as "Q-tip." He
has for better or worse, limited the computers to the point where some students
have difficulties doing their REQUIRED! assignments. It enrages me to see
this. We pay $5000 a semester, but for what? Shotty networks and
poor teaching*. I'm appalled at the quality of this school as it is new,
yet we have crap networks... *as a side note, people like Khan should NOT
being working at DeVry. He is arrogant and leans to be a "know-it-all",
grade "A" bastard. When I see better IT courtesy and better networks,
maybe my words will be curved for the nice.
To Teach or Not to Teach..... (4/25/2002)
Well, most students in second semester CIS know what its like to program in the
C++. As put by my friend, "Monkey See, Monkey Do..." I try and
wonder how people are doing that haven't had ANY kind of programming
experience. It has helped me a lot, however, I notice that he doesn't
explain, he just gives us the code and tells us to copy as if this would teach
us in some manner. Yes we do learn something, but not unique programming
or basic understanding of what we are typing. Those who have been daring
(or wish to be daring) have/can look/looked through the header's and includes
to find out HOW. I notice that we just follow his example which downright
sucks. With a little intuition and some previous programming knowledge,
my friend has managed to come up with a much better If...then condition
statement where as the Teacher states its a certain way as if he is the all
knowing prof. Well, frankly I'm sick of his teaching style. He
doesn't TEACH coding/programming, he teaches on how if we copy the text he
gives us, we can inevitably make apps of a nature that he designs....
"Nic" cards. (4/25/2002) (Updated: 4/30/2002)
For most students, we drive to school, go to classes to get our degree and
continue about our business as if everything is perfect inside our little
bubbles. However, its not so nice in the land of DeVry. Imagine
that you have just got out of class, you walk to your car to find, not a
warning, but a yellow slip that is basically vague as per instructions of the
incident. It is obvious that it is a ticket for parking in a "Staff"
parking spot, not having a parking ticket of up-to-date status, the lack there
of, or a combination of the three. Its insane that we have to pay for
parking when we pay premium price for this school. Also, we must know
that the person who decides the tickets is none other than lazy ass Nic.
He is a smartass in a most annoying way and doesn't seem to do his job right,
yet, somehow he can decide who is worthy of his mark. *As promised, I
have updated this paragraph*: Nic, whom may be a good person in some
aspects, is for better or for worse, not a decent employee @ DeVry U. It
is good to understand that employees not limited to Nic use the
"jump-off-a-bridge" analogy when reasoning with students, but also become
hypocrites when they explain why we have to pay for parking. To get an
idea, go to Nic and ask, "Why do we have to pay for parking when we have to pay
$5000 a semester." If predictable as he is, he will mention that another
school charges for parking. As you can see where I'm going, they are
illogical.
