The Borderlands are the four kingdoms in the north that border the Blight. These include Saldaea, Kandor, Arafel, and Shienar. Malikier, the fifth kingdom, fell into the Blight a generation ago. Extreme climates, thick forests, barren plains and the closeness to the Blight characterize these lands. There is a constant feeling of watchfulness among the people, and they are always ready to take up arms against whatever the Dark One might send out of the Blight.
Borderlander Society
Kandori and Saldeans are merchants, Saldaean women are famous for their sa’sara dance, and the Shienaran baths are renown for their luxury. Despite their differences, the Shienaran saying of “Peace, Beauty, Life” describes the mentality of all the borderlands. Death and the Shadow are constantly present in their world, and they enjoy life as much as possible while they have it.
