The Rangers deployed to the Shiekdom of
RDF in 1997 and raised havoc during rear area raids against the Russian 103rd,
104th and 105th Desantniki (ABN) Divisions. The 103rd being Afganastan Vets
proved to be very tough customers. During this time double disaster struck: his
wife was shot down over Norway near the Kola Peninsula while flying a SEAL
Insertion Covert Ops Mission; and is presumed dead. His daughter enlisted, in
the Army at 17 and qualified for flight school. Two years later she was a
Blackhawk Helicopter Pilot. CWO2 Linna Blackwood was shot down and listed as
missing in action near Warsaw in 1999 during a Medevac Flight. Dartavian almost
went over the edge at this point volunteering for only the most dangerous
operations. Finally badly wounded on a strike that took out 45th Army HQ, his
recommendation for the Distingushed Service Cross is still pending. He refused
a Battlefield Commission. Recovering from his wounds and with a appointment to
Command Sergeant Major he pulled every string he could to get assigned to
Europe and ended up with orders as the CSM 5th Inf Div(M). He has hopes of
finding any information he can about the fate of his wife and daughter.
