For all the little people out there in internet land:
More than 500 Kerrang! readers saw The Darkness open the UK's biggest heavy rock ceremony, the KERRANG! Awards yesterday. Fireworks lit the stage at London's Royal Lancaster Hotel as they performed their next single, 'I Believe In A Thing Called Love'. Their début album 'Permission To Land' is in its sixth week in the top 10 after peaking at number two and going gold.
The Darkness were the only band to win two awards at the magazine's 10th annual ceremony. They won Best Album (for 'Permission To Land') and Best Live Act – but missed out on a hat trick as Welsh beat combo Funeral For A Friend bagged best British newcomer. Collecting the award for Best Live Act, guitarist Dan Hawkins said: "It's absolutely fantastic. It's been a great evening."
Feeder won Best British Act – and dedicated it to their former drummer Jon Lee, who died last year. Nu-metal band Linkin Park won Best International Act while veteran rockers Metallica were inducted into the magazine's Hall Of Fame alongside previous inductees like Ozzy Osbourne, Queen, AC/DC and Iggy Pop.
A new award, for the Spirit Of Rock, was introduced to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the awards and was won by MTV show Jackass. The best single award went to four-piece Good Charlotte for 'Lifestyles Of The Rich And The Famous' while the Red Hot Chili Peppers took the Classic Songwriter trophy and Evanescence won Best International Newcomer.
Reading friday's Metro i came across a couple things I would like to bitch about.
Firstly many of you may have read/heard that 50 of our troops have died in Iraque since the war began. I would like to clear up this crap. 19 of the 50 were killed as accidents so those are our fault as well as the 5 killed by friendly fire. On top of this 4 of the 50 died due to natural causes, so basicly disease WHICH DOESN'T F***ing COUNT! So in total 21 of our troops have been killed in combat whilst one is still under invesigation. Mnay of you may still say well 21 people is quite a few but bear in mind that we have killed over a 1500 of their troops many of which are only civilians!!
Secondly some people may have read about the accusation's against Arny regarding his life of sex and drugs early in his career. I feel sorry for him suffering this blow to his campaign however I still do not support his favouring the leagalisation of marajuana for legal perposes or his being against gay marriages. The latter of which really irritates me. Now i'm not gay but I see nothing wrong with being gay and I don't think anyone has any right to stop people from being so.
On A brighter note. Daid Blaine deserves congratulations for balancing on top of the London eye for one complete rotation, despite being strapped by one leg to the pod it was an incredible feat.
He now plans to spend six weeks suspended in a clear plastic 7ftx7ftx3ft box, dangling from a crane 40ft above the Thames. During this he will consume only water!!!
(Apologies for the quality of the pics, the paper don't scan too well)
