'When the Poppies Bloom Again'

By Lynn Radnedge

A music hall tribute to the 90th anniversary of Armistice Day: When the Poppies Bloom Again weaves real-life reminiscences with the popular songs which sent millions of men marching to the Front.

A tale of laughter, love and heartache, it blends the rumbustious world of the music hall with the agonies of life on the battlefields.

Writer Lynn Radnedge portrays one of the music hall performers who encouraged millions of ordinary young men to take the “King’s Shilling”. She is joined by fellow actress/singer Tricia Dibb with Paul Sadler at the piano.

“The story is based on my grandparents, Selina and Josh Brownhill, who met at the onset of ‘the war to end all wars’,” says Lynn, born and bred in the West Midlands where this and her WWII saga It’s a Lovely Day Tomorrow (see overleaf) is set.

'It’s a Lovely Day Tomorrow'

By Lynn Radnedge

A true story of love and courage marking the 65th anniversary of D-Day, this is Lynn’s tribute to her much-loved uncle Reg Brownhill, a WWII paratrooper and Ivy, his sweetheart of 61 years.

Reg is the son of Selina and Josh Brownhill - main characters in Lynn’s WWI saga When the Poppies Bloom Again (see overleaf). He was captured as he landed in France on D-Day June 6, 1944 and survived a year in a PoW camp.

Lynn has created the story from first-hand accounts, tapes and letters. The show is a musical journey through 60 years of tears and laughter. It features the bugle Reg played on parade, his army pay book, the red beret in which he came home in 1945 and a collection of evocative photographs.
