The Stables

Near the jousting grounds are the stables where one might pet the warhorses or talk to the knights.  The blue knight is out of armour and is speaking to one of the female squires at the faire. One could even ride the warhorses for the proper coinage.

We arrive at the tail end of the Birds of the Gauntlet show.  As you can see the grounds are quite muddy indeed. Lady Lisa had a Flemish painting taken with one of the birds at the nearby mews.

As we leave, Sir Michael and Lady Lisa point out Scrimshaw on Crystal  which sells not only crystals with intricate carvings but naturally two toned crystals.

I see that the village had fared the hurricane well, but may have halted the construction of new structures.  The map shows a King's Feast behind the joust, but only a wooden skeleton of a stage exists.

The tickets may have been cheap, but the food was not. Yet it was excellent indeed. My turkey legs were all properly cooked.  Sir Richard had not enough praises for his steak on a stick. The standard fair was available: Turkey legs, Scotch eggs (sausage rolled around a hard boiled egg, double dipped in bread crumbs then fried), steak on a stick with cajun seasonings (excellent according to Sir Richard), Italian or Polish sausage on a bun -- plain or with veggies.  One not so standard item item was a fried Twinkie.  These are battered, fried then dusted with powdered sugar.  This is not health food, but it tastes good.

The hawkers would slip out of character every so often.  A flutist entertained the patrons as they rested on the benches and ate their meals.

"I will pay five gold if you would stay just the way you are," said a lady of royal court as she admired my arse.

Lady Mary found it nice that benches were provided before the food court to sit down before the lake. Wooden spools were placed as crude tables.

We decide upon the Royal Joust at quarter till four and waiting for the next Duelist show. While we waited, we toured the wares of the local merchants.
