The Maypole
The maypole marked
the gathering point for May festivities or games. 16th century Puritans
accused this to of pagan beliefs or worship. I have read that it
was also associated with fertility
rites. Although this maypole is not historically correct, tis what
most people remember a maypole to be. Ribbons were used in maypoles
starting in 1880s.
