The Old Stone Town

The Old Stone Town: It provides a live experience of fascinating culture consist of a blend  of different ethnic groups mingled with African to form the Swahili culture. The Narrow winding street of the Town, lined by his tropical buildings is typical feature. Most of the historically and culturally important places are in Town, for example, a site of a former Slave Market, Place Museums, Beit -el -Amaan Museums, Old Dispensary, Old Fort, Tuppu Tip, House of Wonders, Mambo Msiige building etc.

Zanzibar is also known as the Spice Island and it has lured travelers for centuries. 

 

Bet-al-Sahel (The palace Museum) 
Built in 1828. It displays the period of the Zanzibar Sultanate. To the north of the palace lies the Makusurani graveyard, which is where most of the Sultans were buried. 

The 'Arab' Fort 
This is a massive cren-vaulted and bastioned structure and was built in 1700. The craft gallery has an excellent selection of first rate fabric worth a look. 

Old slave market and UMCA cathedral 
The cathedral built in 1877 by the mission to central Africa (UMCA), was the first Anglican cathedral in East Africa. 

THE RUINS. 
These are historical sites around the island and are worth visiting. Mbweni palace  is an interesting architectural structure. Mvuleni dates from an abortive Portuguese attempt to colonize the island. 
Mahurumbi palace built the Sultan is in 1882 and the remaining columns once supported a large upper floor overhead aqueduct, Mangapwani slave caves were used for illegal slave trade after the British had abolished it. 

Changuu Island 
Also known as Prison Island. It is the most famous of the offshore islands and in the 19th century was used for housing slaves. The beach is superb, the sea is crystal clear and there's a whole family of giant tortoises roaming freely and often copulating. 

The Marine habitant

The Marine habitant in the unspoiled environment provides a world class sea sports activities such as scuba diving, deep sea fishing, snorkeling. Dolphin watching  at Kizimkazi etc. Pemba Channel the best part sites in part of the best in part of the area. Others are Chumbe Island, Changuu Island, Mnemba Island and Misali Islad etc.

Zanzibar cuisines is another attraction as you well know that cooking in Zanzibar is a mastered art involving lots of spices (not hot ones) to give Zanzibar the name "Spice Islands". I believe all hotels and restaurants offer a wide choice of dishes especially seafood. During evenings, at the Forodhani harbour people sell a variety of spicey snacks to make it look like a huge buffet. Many tourists especially those on low budgets, get their suppers there.
